“Apologies, for sure, if I offended anyone” LeBron James’ narrow escape from being BOOKED for “Jewish Money” post after joining the Lakers
LeBron James
LeBron James has dabbled around the controversy in the past and on many occasions, he has often humbly taken accountability for his actions. During his very first season with the Los Angeles Lakers, he nearly got himself into trouble after posting a few highly offensive words.
In one of his past Instagram posts, he quoted a lyric from rapper 21 Savage’s song called ASRM. The lyrics said, “We been getting that Jewish money. Everything is Kosher.” The term “Jewish Money” ticked off several people in the community. LeBron James claimed that his intent was not to hurt anybody as he believed the term meant something good.
He told ESPN, “Apologies, for sure, if I offended anyone. That’s not why I chose to share that lyric… I always (post lyrics). That’s what I do. I ride in my car. I listen to great music and that was the byproduct of it. So, I actually thought it was a compliment and obviously it wasn’t through the lens of a lot of people.”
LeBron James did not necessarily receive too much backlash for his gesture but it certainly struck a nerve or two. Ever since the incident, he has never found himself in the sights of controversy but often avoids commenting on anything remotely risky to get involved with.
LeBron James breaks silence on Kyrie Irving’s antisemitic posts
LeBron James recently shared his thoughts on the incident involving Kyrie Irving that took place over a week ago. Irving shared a social media post that promoted a movie titled, “Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America.” This movie adaption is of a book that particularly hurt Jewish sentiments and completely nullified their struggles through the 20th century.
Bron explained what he had thought about it during the Lakers press conference saying, “It doesn’t matter what color your skin is, how tall you are or what position you’re in. If you are promoting, soliciting or saying harmful things to any community that harms people, then I don’t respect it. I don’t condone it. I hope he understands that what he said was harmful to a lot of people.”
Irving was recently suspended by the Brooklyn Nets organization for failing to provide an honest and personal apology to the communities and people he hurt. It will be three more games until he could possibly return to the court. Ironically the day he could make his return happens to be the Nets’ game against the Lakers.
