The LeBron James situation is not dying down any time soon. More and more analysts and fans are discussing his next move, with his player option coming up ahead of the 2024 season. Former NBA star Chandler Parsons had a unique take on what James will do next. And that includes his son Bronny James.
Parsons was speaking on the show Run It Back hosted on Fanduel TV. Host Michelle Beadle asked Parsons for his opinion on where James will next play. Parsons said this;
The minute you see Bronny James declare for the draft, they know who's taking him, and you know where LeBron James is going.
Parsons alluded that James has long maintained he wants to play his final season(s) alongside his son. So the very idea of where James will suit up depends on where Bronny James gets drafted. James has kept his options open for next season. The player option was designed keeping Bronny James in mind.
LeBron James signed a 2-year contract extension in the 2022 off-season. He, however, has a player option entering next season. James Sr. structured his contract in such a way that in case James Jr. does not declare for the 2024 NBA draft, he can carry on with the Los Angeles Lakers. Parsons thinks Bronny James will decide where his father plays next season.
If Bronny does declare for the draft, his father will prefer to sign with that team. Parsons thinks James Sr. already has enough power to strike a deal with any team he wants. The only limiting factor will be the salary. James will reportedly earn $51 million next year if he opts into his current Lakers deal.
Bronny James’ draft will determine father LeBron James’ future
LeBron James’ oldest son Bronny James is a freshman at the University of Southern California. James Jr. is a starter for the Trojans. Prior to the start of the college basketball season, he was projected as a top-15 pick. Now, the scenario is different. Bronny has not played up to expectations so far. Averaging just 5.9 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.6 assists is not enough to get a call from an NBA team.
However, being the son of the most famous father in basketball might help. There are rumors that Bronny James could go undrafted. If that happens, he will be able to sign with any team on a starting 2-way contract. Chandler Parsons believes, whichever scenario develops, father James Sr. will join James Jr.
So to sum it up, as per Chandler Parson, LeBron James’ future hangs in the balance. His son will determine his next uniform.
