Following Team USA’s disappointing showing in the 2023 FIBA World Cup, reports have surfaced that LeBron James wants to commit to Team USA to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics. James is recruiting other NBA superstars to play alongside him during the Olympics including Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Anthony Davis, Jayson Tatum and Draymond Green according to Shams Charania of “The Athletic”

LeBron James along with Kobe Bryant were the focal players during Team USA’s campaign to the Olympic Gold Medal during the 2008 and 2012 Olympics. After Team USA’s loss to the Manu Ginobili led Team Argentina in 2004, Team USA has gone on a streak of four consecutive Gold Medals. Kevin Durant has also accumulated three Olympic Gold Medals in 2012, 2016 and 2020. After the humiliating loss to Germany in the FIBA World Cup semifinals, Team USA looks to win for the fifth time in a row in the 2024 Paris Olympics with a Hall-of-Fame roster.

LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant are arguably the three biggest stars in Basketball in the last decade. Watching the superstar trio compete together in the Olympics would be a feat unseen since the 1992 Olympics which featured the “Dream Team”. Fans predict the trio of seasoned veterans to bag an easy gold medal at the Olympics.

In the wake of the 2023 FIBA World Cup defeat, sprinter Noah Lyles has positioned himself on the right side of history with his comments. Coach Steve Kerr also said, “This is not 1992 anymore.”

The 2022-23 All-NBA first team included four players born outside of the United States, and that didn’t include two-time MVP Nikola Jokić. While the Team USA roster at the 2023 FIBA World Cup may have fallen short of expectations and played a significant role in their fourth-place finish, it undeniably served as a powerful testament to the remarkable growth and advancement of international basketball.
