LeBron James is a passionate follower of the NFL. Often seen at the Super Bowl, he follows the sport in any way he can. He is also highly appreciative of the greatness displayed on the gridiron. 

Today, one of the greats of the sport, Aaron Donald, announced his retirement. And LeBron James sent out a heartfelt message to the Los Angeles Rams superstar.

Aaron Donald played in the NFL for 10 seasons. His elite play brought him 10 Pro Bowls and three Defensive Player of the Year awards. After such a Hall of Fame-caliber career, it was apt for another future Hall of Famer, LeBron James, to send out a message to him.

Greatness recognizes greatness, which is apparent from this message to the Superbowl champion. James has seen Donald dominate the NFL with his cross-town Los Angeles Rams in all these years to sing such high praise.

Aaron Donald was the defensive linchpin of the Los Angeles Rams. His ability to destroy double and triple teams and still go after quarterbacks instilled fear in the minds of opponents. Despite offensive coordinators trying their best at scheming against him, Donald would still blow up plays. And he did that despite being undersized for that position.

James knows what it means to be a perennial Pro-Bowler throughout one’s career. He is the only NBA player to do that in the current era, with 20 straight All-Star selections after his Rookie of the Year win in 2004. Donald becomes only the second player in NFL history to achieve that record.

Aaron Donald’s impact on the game of football is such that another NBA superstar joined in to wish him after he announced his retirement. Kevin Durant is an ardent football lover. Hence, it was natural for him to give Donald his flowers once he announced his retirement.

Durant is appreciative of Donald’s body of work in his 10 years in the league. The Phoenix Suns superstar is a boyhood fan of his hometown Washington Commanders.

Kevin Durant acknowledged Donald’s grind to make him one of the best that ever played the game. Many had written him off when he first arrived, simply based on his size. But Donald’s ascension to having the second-best sack record of any defensive tackle in NFL history is proof of that work.

As is evident from these two basketball superstars, Aaron Donald’s game reached out to everyone who follows football. Irrespective of their sport, they have witnessed greatness from the Pittsburgh native.
