Wilson found out on Tuesday night, after putting up 23 points and 13 rebounds in the Aces’ series-clinching Game 4 victory against the Seattle Storm, which propelled them back to the WNBA Finals for the second time in three seasons. After the game, Aces head coach Becky Hammon relayed the news to Wilson’s players, who surrounded her in joy.

A’Ja Wilson averaged 19.5 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks a game while shooting 50.1 percent from the field and 37.3 percent from outside the three-point line. With the exception of points, all of those totals were career highs, and she ended fifth in the league in scoring, second in rebounding, and first in blocks; no one else was in the top five in all three categories. She also became the first player in league history to record 700 points, 300 rebounds, and 70 blocks in a single season.

Wilson won 31 of 56 first-place votes from a nationwide panel of broadcasters and sportswriters in a close contest. Breanna Stewart of the Settle Storm finished second after receiving 23 first-place votes. The only other players to garner first-place votes were Chicago Sky forward Candace Parker and Aces guard Chelsea Gray.

With A’ja Wilson leading the Aces, the team finished first for the play-offs and set a new record for the franchise by winning 26 games. She’s continued her freakish athleticism in the postseason, becoming the first player in playoff history to have back-to-back 30-point, 10-rebound games. She now has the Aces back in the Finals, three victories away from their first championship.

A’ja Wilson joins Lauren Jackson, Lisa Leslie, Sheryl Swoopes, Cynthia Cooper, Elena Della Donne, and Candace Parker as the eighth player in WNBA history to win the MVP Award more than once for this feat of hers he received applause from various NBA stars on twitter most significant of them being Lebron James
