Bronny James, the son of Lakers superstar LeBron James and a USC freshman basketball player, collapsed on the court and suffered a cardiac arrest during a practice with the team on Monday, July 24, 2023. He was taken to the hospital and placed in the ICU, but his condition has improved, and he is no longer in the ICU, according to a statement from the James family.
The incident occurred while Bronny was practicing with the USC basketball team at the Galen Center, the venue where the team plays and practices. A 911 call was made at 9:26 AM from the Galen Center and Bronny, who was unconscious, was transported by ambulance to the hospital with lights and sirens on, which indicates the severity of the emergency.
Bronny is one of the top prospects in the 2023 recruiting class and a four-star recruit who committed to USC earlier this year. He averaged 14 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.8 steals per game at Sierra Canyon High School during his senior season and was a McDonald’s All-American. He also participated in the slam dunk contest at the high school showcase in March.
