On the 24th of July, 2023, the basketball world was rocked with the news of LeBron James‘ eldest son, Bronny James, suffering a cardiac arrest at the Galen Center at the University of Southern California during a practice session. Fans and those close to the James family sent all their well wishes and blessings with the hope that James can recover and get back to full health as soon as possible.

Thankfully, James was discharged from an LA hospital a couple of days ago and was seen for the first time since the health scare playing the piano, with his father recording the video and sharing a heartfelt message for his son on social media. LeBron James and his wife Savannah issued a statement in which they thanked the medical and athletic staff of the University of Southern California for their incredible work and for ensuring the safety of their athletes.

Now that Bronny is out of danger and back home, the question arises whether James can continue to play basketball at a high level. LeBron, Savannah, and Bronny’s younger brother Bryce were shaken up after what transpired the other day.

A source close to the family told The Daily Mail that if Bronny isn’t able to play basketball again, then that is what they will follow. The source said,But those decisions are a long way away. As parents, this has been a nightmare. Going through this has been very stressful. They just want the best for Bronny. They really can’t believe that this happened and is happening.”

Cardiologists who treated James have warned that his basketball career could well be over due to what happened to him recently. Dr. Christopher Tanayan, a New York-based cardiologist, gave his view on the situation and said, “If they find something that puts him at a high risk for sudden death then that may make or break his career. Whether or not Bronny’s career can continue will depend on his family, the league and ultimately his own appetite for risk.”

A lot of fans have been quite vocal on social media about this incident. They are blaming the Covid-19 vaccination for what happened to James considering that it is very rare for a young and healthy athlete at the age of 18 to suffer something as serious as a cardiac arrest.

Prior to his sudden health scare, Bronny committed to playing for the USC Trojans of the Pac-12 Conference back in May in this year. He had narrowed down his choices to USC, Ohio State, and Oregon University before finally making his decision. He averaged 14.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.8 steals per game during his senior season representing Sierra Canyon School.

He was then selected to play in the McDonald’s All-American Game, where he came off the bench and scored 15 points, knocking down 5 three-pointers, much to the delight of the crowd. He was also named to the United States team for the Nike Hoop Summit where he scored 11 points in his team’s win. Bronny is rated as a four-star recruit and has attracted a lot of interest in the NBA and it would truly be a shame if he doesn’t get an opportunity to take forward his father’s legacy due to health reasons.

LeBron James openly stated earlier this year that he would like to share the floor with Bronny, either in the same uniform or a matchup against him. No fan in the world would want to miss out on that experience.
