A few weeks back, LeBron James suffered an injury to his right foot tendon, which made many fans of the Los Angeles Lakers worried about their playoff prospects. James is a highly-regarded basketball player and is an integral part of the Lakers team.
However, despite his absence, the Lakers managed to win four out of seven games, which helped them improve their standing in the Western Conference and bring them closer to securing a spot in the playoffs with just a month left in the regular season.
Lakers Daily reported on Tuesday that James’ recovery is showing signs of improvement. Sources mentioned that he is feeling better and has the ability to engage in activities such as lifting weights and practising free throws while standing still.
According to a report by Shams Charania, a journalist for The Athletic, the Lakers are preparing for the possibility of LeBron James returning to the team towards the end of the regular season. Even if James is cleared to play next week, it is expected that he will need more time to gradually ramp up his basketball activities before he can fully participate in games.
“I’m told his right foot is feeling much better,” Shams said. “The Lakers are bracing as if he will need a significant chunk of the remainder of the regular season to ramp up for a return.”
Additionally, LeBron James provided a possible update on his return from his foot injury through an Instagram post. The 38-year-old shared a cartoon picture of himself in what looks like a cryotherapy chamber, suggesting that he is making headway in his recovery.
LeBron James and LA Lakers Battle for Playoff Positioning
The LA Lakers are gearing up for an exciting end to the regular season as they fight for a spot in the Western Conference playoffs. With a revamped roster, the Lakers have been on a roll, winning seven of their past ten games and boasting a two-game win streak.
Currently ninth in the standings with a 34-35 record, the Lakers are within striking distance of the sixth-ranked LA Clippers and the seventh-ranked Minnesota Timberwolves, both with a 35-34 record. The Dallas Mavericks are also in the mix with a 34-35 record.
Anthony Davis has been leading the charge in the absence of LeBron James, putting up impressive numbers with an average of 26.1 PPG and 12.6 REB in the past five games. With James set to return from injury soon, the Lakers could make a strong playoff run if they secure a spot in the postseason.
The Lakers have a manageable stretch of five games ahead, facing the Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns and Oklahoma City Thunder. If they can maintain their current form, the Lakers could make a late-season surge and secure a playoff berth.
