LeBron James is arguably the most dominant player the game has ever seen, but a particular version of him stuck out to his foes. Iman Shumpert believed the Miami Heat version of James to be the scariest player he had faced in his career.

A former teammate of James and proficient storyteller, Shumpert shared his experience in a recent interview. According to Shumpert, James was playing at the best version of his career after the Heat’s 2011 NBA Finals loss to the Dallas Mavericks.

Shumpert recently appeared on the All the Smoke podcast hosted by Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson. There he expressed his admiration for James and Dwyane Wade, “I think the best version I saw of Bron[James] was…you remember the year that Dirk[Nowitzki] won? That next year they came back.

He also touched on a rumor that came out that year; Wade and James allegedly proposed not settling for threes to put pressure on the defense. “When he and D Wade vowed to not shoot, not settle for threes, and they played their whole first season, and they weren’t shooting no threes. They were just; it was vicious.” Shumpert added,” I was like, ‘Bro, what the f**k are we supposed to do with that? I was, like, looking at the league. What am I going to do about that? Like, what is that, n***a?

The NBA player turned rapper had previously played with James in Cleveland and had witnessed his greatness. However, James’ best years came during his tenure with the Heat, where he won two Finals MVP and four consecutive NBA Finals trips.

After looking back at the track record of LeBron James’ time with the Heat, it is arguable to claim that the Heat’s version of him was the best to do it. James played in the Heat uniform for only four seasons, but most of his career accolades came with Miami.

James has averaged 26.9 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 6.7 assists in 294 games for the Heat, winning back-to-back championships for the city. His best performance came in the 2011-12 season, where he poured in 27.1 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per contest. James was selected to play in his eighth All-Star game that same year. He won his third MVP award, first Finals MVP award, and first NBA championship.

The 6-foot-8 forward also credited Miami for turning him into a better player, “I spent like seven years, and then I went to Miami that first year and everything was about like still what everybody else thought,” he added, “And then I was literally like ‘I don’t give a f**k about what anybody else thinks.”

James has now spent the remaining part of his career with the Lakers and is still looking to add more to his resume. The James-led Lakers are determined to win another Championship for Los Angeles following a successful offseason from the front office.
