LeBron James will be up for a new contract extension after next season. That is if he exercises his player option before the 2024–25 season begins. 

He mentioned during the All-Star press conference that he is happy as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers and would like to continue there until his retirement. However, an NBA Insider believes that James is looking for a nine-figure salary, which will be significantly more than his current deal. This new revelation has caused a furor among NBA fans.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst revealed that James is looking at a nine-figure salary. James has made it clear that he wants to fight for championships until he decides to hang up his shoes.

Interestingly enough, what stunned NBA fans is that LeBron James is looking for a figure that is far more than the $51 million he will receive if he does not exercise his player option. That would leave James with sizeable leverage with the Lakers. 

LeBron James is still playing at an elite level and can lead them on championship runs. James is looking forward to a nine-figure salary, as he wants to be paid the best in the NBA. 

He seems to demand such a figure owing to his contributions and what he can do commercially for the Los Angeles Lakers until his retirement. Add to that the ever-increasing salary cap, and it seems the ball is in his court.

After next season’s draft, James has three days to decide on his player option. Maybe he has designed the timeline with his son Bronny James‘ draft situation. Nevertheless, James will be looking for a significant increase from his current pay.
