Dillon Brooks wanted LeBron James to earn the former’s respect but ended up paying a hefty sum instead. The fiasco between Memphis Grizzlies and the Los Angeles Lakers was one for the ages. While it wasn’t an on-court trouble, but controversies and drama clouded performances. The highlight of the series was the constant back-and-forth between King LeBron James and Grizzlies’ famously known villain Dillon Brooks. This rivalry, even though completely unexpected, resulted in the spiciest headlines this post-season.
It all started with Dillon Brooks running his mouth against James and the Lakers before the first-round series. Some of Brooks’ controversial remarks include him calling James ”old” and saying the Grizzlies would easily knock the Lakers out. Well, sadly for Brooks, the Grizzlies didn’t knock the Lakers out, and to add to that, Brooks paid a hefty price for his trash-talk.
Dillon Brooks, who at one point couldn’t stop the talk, seemed to go silent after Grizzlies’ embarrassing losses. The NBA fined Dillon Brooks $25,000 for refusing to do media availabilities multiple times during Memphis’ first-round loss to the Lakers. This comes in after the Grizzlies were kicked out of Round 1 by the Lakers post their terrific performance. The Lakers won Game 6 with a 40-point margin, ending the game at 125-85.
Fans called the situation hilarious as they called Brooks out for his actions, saying he had called it upon himself. While some mentioned that this was all karma for his actions, others made memes out of it. NBA Twitter went haywire after a hefty fine was imposed on Brooks post his embarrassment, elimination, and silence.

The fine imposed on Dillon Brooks wasn’t as funny for King James as it was for the fans who were waiting on Brooks’ downfall. The entire world knew something was coming for Brooks after disrespecting the King of the NBA. Who would’ve thought the NBA’s regulations would act as karma for the acting “villain”?
Take a look at some of these hilarious fan reactions on Twitter to reports of the fine being imposed on Brooks. While some called LeBron James his father, others prayed to the NBA to let him have his money. This wasn’t out of sympathy but rather as a requirement for Brooks to head into the Chinese League.
It’ll be interesting to see whether all of this brings a change in Brooks’ behavior towards James and others. Fans have turned ruthless, aging with Brooks’ constant disrespect. This time, there are no two sides… everyone seems to be enjoying Brooks’ downfall.
