“If they give me $25 Million a year for 4 years” Legendary Shaquille O’ Neal reveals condition for coaching Los Angeles Lakers

Shaquille O'Neal on Los Angeles Lakers

After the firing of Frank Vogel, there are many candidates for the vacant top position at Los Angeles Lakers. Former Lakers big Man Shaquille O’ Neal made him available for the position but has 1 serious condition for it. The upsetting end to the 2022 season for purple and gold was followed by changes around the franchise., given that those changes were a must, it is pivotal that they have a steady head to guide the players. Talking about the same, it started with a series of exit interviews and the sacking of head coach Frank Vogel. Many people considered that the decision is not fair, and Vogel is the victim of poor team performance.

But now that the said position is vacant, various candidates are discussed for the position. Former Lakers Center and former NBA Champion with the team, Shaquille O’ Neal opted for the role and demands $25 Million per year for 4 seasons.

Though Shaq made his offer public on “The Big Podcast”, considering him in a coaching role might look hilarious for some people. Especially with his “Shaqtin-a-fool” image, it might not be taken seriously, but he is an NBA analyst, giving great suggestions, particularly to the Big guys in the league. It is of course up to the Lakers front office to decide the Head Coach position.

Quinn Snyder, Doc Rivers, Kenny Atkinson, Tyron Lue, and Phil Handy are some of the leading candidates for the position for highly demanding Los Angeles Lakers’ Head coach position. Quinn Snyder has guided Jazz to consistent top 4 finishers in the Western Conference but failed to deliver a Championship. Having LeBron James and Anthony Davis at his disposal might give him that spoken off chance and the Lakers probably another shot at the ring.

Doc Rivers is also currently active in the postseason, and his availability will depend on Philly’s run in the playoffs. After coaching Lakers Championship Rivals Boston Celtics (2008), and rivals LA Clippers, it would be interesting to see how he will win over the fans in Hollywood. Tyron Lue is also one of the strong contenders for the head coaching position considering his relationship with Franchise and Star player LeBron James.

Kenny Atkinson and Phil Handy are currently working as assistant coaches in GSW and Lakers respectively. Handy is familiar with team and front office expectations, but he would be part of the “losing” side over the last 2 seasons, whereas Kenny Atkinson has a pretty good resume, with the Warriors.

It would be interesting to see, which candidate will finally win the race for to “Golden – thorn” position. Lakers otherwise have one candidate ready in Shaq. Will the management once again take an unexpected turn to thrown the kitchen sink by appointing Shaquille O’ Neal as the Head Coach? Remains to be seen.
