“Let me be that guy” – Jimmy Butler’s DEAD EYE demand to Erik Spoelstra before game-tying shot in series win over Bucks
Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra claims Jimmy Butler demanded the last shot of the game against Milwaukee

Jimmy Butler
Jimmy Butler hit yet another clutch shot in the playoffs, and Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra revealed Butler’s ice-cold mentality while the play was being drawn up. The Miami Heat defeated the Milwaukee Bucks in game 5 of the Eastern Conference first round to clinch the series. The Heat’s 128-126 win made them the first eight-seed to topple the one seed since the Philadelphia 76ers in 2012.
Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra spoke after the game on drawing up a play for someone other than Jimmy Butler while being 2 points down in the final seconds and said – “He (Jimmy Butler) looked me dead in the eye and he just said, ‘No. Let me be that guy.'” Butler proceeded to hit the game-tying shot with just 0.5 seconds left on the clock to take the game to overtime.
Jimmy Butler dropped 42 points on the night, with 14 coming in the fourth quarter in an inspired performance. The Heat were down by 16 points entering the fourth and turned it around. The Milwaukee Bucks did have timeouts in the fourth quarter and overtime which could have saved them the game, but they did not use them, and Miami ended up getting a historic victory.

Jimmy Butler now has the most 40-point playoff games in franchise history

Butler has a reputation for turning up in the playoff, and in 2023 he has done it in record-breaking style. The Miami Heat guard scored 42 points in game 5 on the back of a franchise playoff-record 56 points in game 4 to seal the series in Milwaukee. Butler achieved a feat that Miami Heat legends of the past, such as LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, could not achieve themselves with consecutive 40-point playoff games for Miami.
Butler has been on a tear these playoffs averaging 37 points in his 5 games against the Milwaukee Bucks. The Bucks made just three field goals in the fourth quarter as the Miami Heat sliced a 16-point deficit, thanks mainly to their 6x All-star. Butler spoke on his mindset going into the timeout with 2.5 seconds on the clock, saying – “You could just tell the entire series that Jrue wasn’t taking a body off me. So I said, ‘I guarantee you that when I turn this corner, he’s going to be lock-and-trail, he’s going to be behind me.”
Butler’s plan was exactly as expected, with Holiday unable to get a hand on Butler’s shot, which he could catch and hoist right under the rim to tie the game. The Miami Heat successfully exacted revenge on the Milwaukee Bucks for sweeping them in 2021. Since 2020 the Bucks and the Heat have faced thrice in the playoffs, with Jimmy’s men getting the better of them on two occasions now.
