The first-round pick from San Antonio shines after joining the Los Angeles Lakers this season. Lonnie Walker had always been seen as a role player for the team. The 24-year-old averages 10 points and two rebounds a game. Playing for the Lakers, Walker had improved his game by a margin as he got more minutes during the regular season. Going into the postseason, Lonnie wasn’t seen on the floor for long.
After taking a 2-1 series lead over the Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles held a condensed pivotal Game 4 at home. King James led the team in scoring, putting up 27, whereas Anthony Davis grabbed the most rebounds, 15. Though out of the two, neither had led the way to a win. Lonnie Walker’s fourth-quarter eruption had the Lakers seal a Game 4 win, as they go up 3-1 against the Dubs.
Walker had 15 points and three rebounds. While these numbers seem low, Walker had played incredible defense on Stephen Curry, suffocating every one of his moves. Apart from having the tedious task to guard Steph, Walker also made some clutch shots that had the team ahead of the Dubs. After a memorable night, the youngster had nothing but a humble response to his performance.
Lonnie had fans on the internet shocked by his unexpected Game 4 performance. “I’ve been doing this for 24 years of my life. I’ve always been in the gym and nothing’s ever going to change.”, said Walker, following his action versus the Dubs. Lonnie had previously played for the San Antonio Spurs for four seasons before he signed a one-year deal with the Lakers for the 2022-23 season. With his potential visible on the floor, he should be seen more in action.

Lonnie Walker deserves more minutes
Though he is a role player, Walker delivered more than he was expected to in Game 4. Not only was he locked in on defense, but Walker also put the Lakers in the lead in the clutch. Lonnie wasn’t so active in the previous games, knowing his job on the floor following Game 4, Walker should be awarded more time as he definitely deserves to contribute more.
For the youngster, this was a memorable performance, one that fans will never forget. Not a lot of players prevail having to guard Cury, though Walker had put himself as an exception. Going ahead in this postseason, Lonnie should be seen more in action, considering his potential to be skyrocketing after this game.
