The contracts in the NBA are getting larger and larger as time goes by, with every new contract being signed by star players becoming the largest contracts in the history of the league. Recently, Jaylen Brown signed a 5-year, $304 million contract, which was the largest contract in NBA history.

This was short-lived as Anthony Davis signed a 3-year, $186 million deal, which would give him an average salary of $62 million a year. According to an NBA analyst, the biggest contract ever is yet to come. According to NBA Insider Bobby Marks, Luka Doncic’s next contract could become the largest contract ever in the NBA, which could pay the Slovenian superstar over $80 million per year.

Luka is currently in the second year of his maximum rookie extension. He is earning $40 million a year and will have a player option in the 2026-27 season where he is expected to opt out and demand a larger deal, which could earn him double of what he is currently earning.

Luka has been the franchise player of the Dallas Mavericks ever since he got drafted and outside of this past season and his rookie season, he has made the playoffs every season and has also led his team to the Western Conference Finals. He has also made four consecutive All-NBA First Team selections, so when it’s a contract season for Luka, he would be demanding what he is truly worth. While the 2026-27 season is far away, it’s still certain that when the time comes around, Luka will get the largest contract in the league.

When Jaylen Brown got the big contract, everyone trolled him for not having a left-hand dribble package to be awarded the biggest contract. But with Luka, who is possibly the best young player and a top 5 player in the league right now, most fans were surprised when Bobby Marks predicted that Luka is going to receive an $80 million deal. They thought it was justified given Luka’s talents. Here are some of the reactions:

Luka won’t be the only player who will receive such big contracts when the 2026-27 season comes around because the revenue of the league is growing every year, and on top of that, the cap space is increasing, allowing the teams to spend more on their roster and bring in huge stars by offering them huge deals. So, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Luka receives such a contract.
