“Don’t mean s**t” – Luka Doncic faces Mavs fans’ WRATH despite 42-point heroic display in a losing cause

The 2022-23 season has to be one that tastes bitter for the Dallas Mavericks. In what followers of the game consider as one of the greatest mid season collapses they’ve seen, the Mavs have slipped to the 11th place in the Western Conference. Dallas were handed their 41st loss of the season in the game against Miami Heat despite Luka Doncic’s valiant efforts. As fans see Play-In contention fade away, their disappointment was not kept from being bombarded on social media.
The inclusion of Kyrie Irving into the Dallas based franchise raised a lot of hope for those whose hearts lie there. However, in what can only be described as a gut wrenching performance, the Mavs have lost way more than they have won. Coming off a conference finals appearance, fans would’ve expected a better if not similar record and performance this season. However, the Mavs shaped up very differently. Criticism full of wrath, thereafter, have been pouring in, particularly against the Mavericks guard.
Luka played his heart out on the floor against the Heat, scoring 42 points with 10 rebounds and eight assists. However, his heroics went down in a losing cause as the Mavs fell 122-129. Tim Hardaway Jr put up a commendable performance scoring 31 points in 40 minutes. Kyrie Irving too, walked out of the game scoring 23 points. It’s not like the Mavericks put up a dissappointing team effort. They’ve been consistently showing up with a fighting spirit. However, a fighting spirit doesn’t mean much when winning results seem to be in a drought.
That is exactly how the Mavericks fandom feels right now. With piling losses almost knocking them out of Play-In contention, very few can be satisfied with a heroic performances if they come in a losing cause.
Twitter reacts to Mavericks’ 41st loss of the season
Twitter has always been an unpleasant place for any player after a tough loss. This time isn’t any difference for Luka and the Mavericks. While fans of rival teams were quick to mock his skill and talent, home fans did not have much to defend with either. In fact, many home fans also vent out their frustration of a horrendous season on the young guard.
Twitteratis were also brutal with their comments about the lack in Luka’s defensive play. One tweeter wrote “Gives up so many points it evens out” pointing out that his 42 points made no impact as Luka gave up just as many points due to a weak defensive game.
The Mavericks have just four more games left in the season and they will try and make most of what they have left.. Although, their chances to make it to the Play-In are little to none. Regardless, Luka and the Mavericks will look to brush this loss of their shoulders for their next clash against the Atlanta Hawks tomorrow.
