Luka Doncic, the dynamic Dallas Mavericks guard, has reportedly signed a contract extension with the iconic Jordan Brand, ensuring he remains one of its most prominent ambassadors until 2029. The young Slovenian, recognized with All-Star and All-NBA accolades consistently over the past four years, first joined the Jordan Brand family in 2019, marking a significant milestone as the first European-born-and-raised athlete to do so.

While gearing up to lead his national team into the FIBA World Cup, Doncic continues to establish himself not just on the court but in the world of sportswear and philanthropy. In recent times, the 24-year-old unveiled the ‘Matador’ edition of the Luka 2 shoe, a design influenced by his transformative years with Spanish giant, Real Madrid. Fans were given a glimpse of this colorway during Slovenia’s World Cup warm-up game against Greece.

Sneaker enthusiasts, Blake Bostwick’s Twitter account, @LukaDonkicks, have kept a keen eye on Doncic’s footwear journey, noting that there were as many as 52 unique versions of the Luka 1s. These shoes were quite popular among college basketball players.

Last season, both men’s and women’s squads from nine Division I institutions, notably Howard University, wore customized versions of the Luka 1s. Additionally, Orlando Magic’s rising star, Paolo Banchero, introduced his Luka 1 PE variant, a tribute to his time spent playing at the Seattle Rotary Boys & Girls Club.

Luka Doncic steps beyond basketball

Doncic’s latest signature shoe was released in a Luk.AI colorway, paying homage to his 2022 launch of an AI-based virtual version of himself, ‘Luk.AI’. This innovative project seeks to offer fans a unique, interactive platform to experience competitive challenges alongside their basketball hero.

However, this extended contract with Jordan Brand isn’t purely commercial. Doncic’s representatives, agent Bill Duffy and business manager Lara Beth Seager, ensured that there’s a philanthropic side to this partnership. The newly inked agreement ensures a direct link to the Luka Doncic Foundation.

This collaboration will guarantee the further distribution of Jordan Brand merchandise to underprivileged children, underlining Doncic’s commitment to giving back to the community.

With the FIBA World Cup on the horizon and an exhibition match against Real Madrid in Spain scheduled for October, fans have much to anticipate from the Slovenian star.
