The Dallas Mavericks are wasting no time in their offseason pursuits as they aim to strengthen their roster ahead of the upcoming NBA season. After an active night during the NBA Draft that included multiple trades, Mavs General Manager Nico Harrison made it clear that they are just getting started.

According to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, the Mavericks have expressed interest in Denver Nuggets free-agent wing Bruce Brown. MacMahon revealed that there was a missed opportunity last summer when the Mavericks passed on signing Brown, favoring JaVale McGee instead. Unfortunately, McGee’s season did not go out as expected, leaving Mavericks fans with a sense of regret.

“Our old buddy [Marc Stein] linked him to the Mavericks. I’ve heard similar things,” MacMahon said. “I actually heard that the Mavericks maybe could have had him last summer but thought that JaVale McGee was the bigger prize.”

However, the Mavericks are not stressing past decisions but instead are focused on the present. With the ability to offer the full Mid-Level Exception (MLE), which currently stands at $12.4 million, the Mavericks are in a strong position to pursue top wings in free agency, starting with Bruce Brown.

While the Nuggets can offer Brown up to $7.8 million, it is expected that his market value will exceed that figure. Teams with significant cap space, such as the Houston Rockets or San Antonio Spurs, could potentially make higher offers. Nevertheless, Brown’s desire to join a championship-contending team could affect his decision in favor of the Mavericks.

The Dallas Mavericks are determined to make significant moves this offseason and have already taken steps to strengthen their roster. By releasing Davis Bertans’ contract in a draft night trade, the Mavericks freed up the full Mid-Level Exception (MLE), providing them with the necessary financial flexibility to pursue top-tier talent.

NBA Insider Marc Stein reported that the Mavericks have set their sights on Bruce Brown as their primary target in free agency. Brown, who played an important role in the Denver Nuggets’ championship-winning season, is known for his defensive prowess and versatility on the court.

As the NBA offseason unfolds, all eyes will be on the Dallas Mavericks and their pursuit of Bruce Brown. The upcoming weeks will prove crucial as the Mavericks aim to secure their targets and solidify their position as legitimate contenders in the Western Conference.

With General Manager Nico Harrison leading the charge, Mavericks fans can be optimistic about the team’s chances of making significant moves in the 2023-2024 NBA season.
