The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Phoenix Suns at Footprint Center on Christmas Day thanks to a fantastic performance by Luka Doncic (128–114). Doncic from Slovenia finished with an amazing double-double of 50 points, 15 assists, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals on 15 of 25 field goal shooting, including 8 of 16 from beyond the arc. The Mavs improved to 18-12 on the season and 5th in the Western Conference positions with the victory.

In league history, Doncic’s 39 points on Christmas Day tied NBA legend Rick Barry for third place. Over the past few seasons, the Mavs and Suns have developed a rivalry, heightened by their recent playoff matchups. Phoenix fans jeered Luka Doncic during the game, which was not surprising. That did not, however, bother the MVP candidate.

Doncic, via Landon Thomas of Mavs Fans for Life, on getting booed by Phoenix Suns said,

It's great I love playing in these environments. It's fun for me. When you make a shot, the whole gym is quiet. So that's the best feeling in the world.

The Mavs improved to 18-12 in the West after their win, extending their winning streak to two games. The Suns, meanwhile, fell to 14–15 after suffering their third straight loss. Doncic’s career regular-season record against them is still just 6-11, but he has won three of those games in the last four.

Luka Doncic hits a career milestone of 10,000 points

In addition to leading the Dallas Mavericks to a thrilling victory over the Phoenix Suns on the road on Christmas Day, Luka Doncic created NBA history by surpassing the 10,000-point milestone in his career. He only needed 11 points to do so going into the game, and he finished with 17 in the first quarter. He eventually reached 50, making him the seventh-fastest player to accomplish that feat.

In 358 games, Doncic surpassed Hall of Famer Bob McAdoo to reach 10,000 points, which ties him for the seventh fastest in NBA history. Wilt Chamberlain, the legendary center, completed the feat in the fewest games—236. With 4:52 remaining in the quarter, Doncic made a 34-foot, straightaway 3-pointer to surpass 10,000 points in style. That was his second three-pointer in 37 seconds, giving him 12 points.

Having scored 32.9 points per game while playing in 27 games this season, Doncic had six triple-doubles going into the game. After playing in 28 games for Dallas thus far, Doncic has averaged 33.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 9.4 assists while shooting 48.9% from the field and 38.7% from behind the arc.
