One of the top young superstars in the NBA is Luka Doncic, who has solidified his place in the top tier. The Mavs superstar, in fact, is expected to take over as the NBA’s public face in the near future, according to a number of people around the league.
When Luka was a rookie at 19, he was trying to make his way in the game, and it now seems like a lifetime ago. It turns out that the Mavs rookie received some advice from none other than Los Angeles Lakers Legend Kobe Bryant during this extremely challenging period in his career.
“Actually I met him before, it was in Portland you know,” Doncic revealed in a recent episode of JJ Redick’s The Old Man & the Three podcast. “Just after I was drafted, I think, it was the Nike campus. He was there, and the one piece of advice he gave me was, ‘Watch out, they’re gonna come after you because you’re from Europe. They’re gonna try and go after you.’ And it was true.”
Doncic’s shift to the basketball court seemed to happen without a hitch. He dominated the NBA in his rookie campaign, winning Rookie of the Year accolades with the Mavericks. Since then, he has improved his skills to new heights, making him one of the game’s top superstars. It can be simple to forget that Luka Doncic, who is in his fourth NBA season, is only 22 years old.

Luka Doncic is ahead of LeBron James after the first 245 games
Few athletes have had as successful of a start to their careers as Luka Doncic has in the NBA. In his first season, he won Rookie of the Year, and in just his sophomore campaign, he advanced to the All-NBA First Team level. Since he is undoubtedly the finest young player in the league right now and has consistently been one of the NBA’s best players despite only turning 23. LeBron averaged 0.4 points more than Luka in their first 245 games, but Doncic outperformed him in every other category. The Slovenian has nearly 2 more rebounds per game than LBJ and nearly 1.5 more assists. He’s also won more games; at this point, Luka has 134 career wins to LeBron’s 126.
This does not imply that Luka Doncic will have a more successful career than LeBron or even close to it.
