Shockwaves were sent across Serbia, a country with strict gun control laws, as a mass shooting claimed the lives of nine people. Eight children and a security guard were killed in the shooting in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. The Vladislav Ribnikar Elementary School reported that the shooter had claimed the lives of seven girls and one boy. The perpetrator was a 13-year-old boy and a student of the school itself. He called the police himself after the shooting.

The country was gripped in a wave of sadness due to this completely rare, unexpected, and tragic event. In light of the shooting, Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic has come forward to help ease the pain of the families of the victims. He has promised financial aid to the families who have lost their loved ones at the shooting. Doncic has also offered to pay for the grief counseling of the classmates and staff.

The Dallas Mavericks didn’t have the best time this season as the team failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Mavericks ended their season at the 11th position on the Western Conference standings right behind OKC Thunder. While the Mavs performed terribly, Doncic averaged 32.4 points, eight assists, and 8.6 rebounds this season, his career high. He also expressed disappointment at the team’s ways of playing the last few decider games.

Sports Illustrated reported that Doncic went home to Slovenia due to Mavs’ playoff absence. There he was able to spend time with his family and fellow players from his national team. As for this upcoming summer, Doncic plans to represent Slovenia in the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

It’ll be interesting to see how Doncic performs in the World Cup and how the Mavs plan on correcting their mistakes next season.
