If there is one player who epitomizes what Dallas as a city and the Dallas Mavericks mean to the NBA fans, it’s none other than Luka Doncic. From a young Serbian with a dream to now arguably one of the most creative players in the NBA currently, the Point Guard has come a long way. And while most players work their socks off, Doncic, however, feels it all comes naturally to him.
In the latest episode of “The Old Man and the Three” podcast by his former teammate JJ Redick, Luka Doncic took some time to be the guest on the episode. During the episode, both discussed how Luka developed his special skill of perfecting his drives in games, which he tried in his recent 73-point game against the Atlanta Hawks.
And the answer was even more astonishing than his eye-catching skills on the court.
I didn’t practice that. Doncic said on whether he practices those moves. To which JJ Redick replied,
You’re a sick f**k.
Doncic would later go on to explain briefly his “slow step” move and how he once tried to teach it to one of his former teammates.
Doncic added,
I remember one day I tried to teach [Dorian Finney-Smith]. I said, ‘You just gotta do the slow step. You gotta go into the defender a little bit and then just slow step. He’s gonna jump and if he doesn’t jump, you just go up.’ Maybe it’s the IQ, I don’t know. But I never really practiced that one.
There is no denying “Luka Magic” is on full display during its season, but the 24-year-old just continues to amaze the people around him. And a stellar start to the season, there is no question that he would be a strong contender for the MVP this season.
Luka Doncic hits 73 against the Atlanta Hawks
Luka Magic was up and running, for Luka himself it was a beautiful sight to behold. In their recent close 148-143 win against the Atlanta Hawks, the atmosphere was up totally for the showdown, and so was Luka Doncic.
Doncic contributed 73 points in the entirety of the game, marking his new career high in a single outing. He was simply unplayable. It has been a season to remember for Luka, who looks unstoppable and leading the line for the Mavericks.
But as far as the team performance goes, they aren’t where they wished to be, currently sitting eighth in the Western Conference. But as for Luka, his magic on the court seems to have no halt at the moment.
And while the victory has improved the Dallas Mavericks record to 29 wins this season, fans from both ends expect this team to do something special, especially with the talent they have got. But will they? Only time will tell.
