News of teams tampering with their record has been circulating around the league for quite some time now, and all is due to Victor Wembanyama. The young gun is projected to be one of the biggest draft prospects since LeBron James. Magic Johnson himself was a highly-touted prospect when he was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers. When he was asked about the talk of the league Wembanyama, the Lakers great had some really embellished words for the future NBA prospect. Johnson said that Victor was a unique player and can dominate on both sides of the floor.

When he was asked about his impressions of Wembanyama, Johnson said that a conventional player either has a good post-game or the midrange jump shot, but the 2023 prospect is a never seen player. “Either your post-game is good or your outside jump shot is good. We’ve never seen a guy who can do both and can handle the basket and can also handle the basketball,” he said. “He can block shots. He’s a league changer and a franchise changer. I don’t know if we’ve seen someone with this type of talent in a long time be that young.

The former Los Angeles great also added that Wembanyama can change the game and has the potential to change the fate of the franchise forever. “He can affect the game in so many different ways and whoever gets him: This guy is going to change his franchise forever. The hype is real,” Johnson said. He also added that a player like him could make a LeBron kind of impact. “He will probably make an impact like LeBron did when he first came into the league.”

Is Magic Johnson right about Victor Wembanyama changing the fate of teams in the league?

Wembanyama’s entry into the league would kick off a new generation of players, which combines a length of a big man beyond 7ft and the skills of a guard. The French star has become an undisputed first-round top-draft pick in the 2023 lottery draft. His dribbles, his ability to knock down long-range shots, and his unprecedented domination on the defensive board could easily change the fate of any team he lands next year.

While it is true that he is yet to enter the league, which is dominated by physicality, and that he must perform at a much higher level. Yet, there is one factor that clearly gives him an advantage over other players, even in the NBA: his height. The 7’3″ French basketball prodigy can shoot a one-legged jumper as in the H.O.R.S.E. game. Everyone is faced with the same issue every time he exits a game: “How to guard him?” When a player of LeBron’s calibre refers to him as a “alien,” you know he’s trouble.
