Magic Johnson

Magic Johnson has established himself as a wealthy businessman in the 30 years after his retirement, and one of his initial initiatives was to deal with LA’s gang leaders to end their violence for the sake of the community. Johnson wasn’t sure what to do with his life after receiving an HIV diagnosis, which led to his initial retirement from the NBA in 1991. Magic claims he was persuaded to start his companies in Black communities during the 1992 Los Angeles Rodney King riots. But Johnson encountered a significant obstacle in his efforts to give back to the community. Magic survived it, and his reputation as a Laker icon was beneficial, particularly with the LA gangs.

Earvin “Magic” Johnson served as the Lakeshow’s master of ceremonies. Magic captivated the audience and had everyone get up from their seats, living up to his namesake. The Lakers became entertainers because of Magic’s expertise at using creative basketball to improve their squads. The construction of a cinema theatre in South LA was Johnson’s first undertaking. However, he was also aware of the area’s serious gang issue, which may endanger the success of the entire project where he added that local leaders contacted him almost away.

Johnson’s affiliation to LA Gangs

In order to set up a meeting, Magic Johnson had to sit down with the two gang leaders in Los Angeles. It was done to demand an end to the fighting that had been going on in LA’s streets. The Lakers icon planned to construct a movie theatre in Southern Los Angeles, and Magic’s plan was to incorporate his neighborhood into it despite the fact that it is a commercial facility. Magic’s investment was supposed to include both entertainment and employment. Magic arranged a breakfast meeting with the heads of both gangs to satisfy the skeptics. Magic Johnson’s business partner reported that roughly 35 gang members attended.

Gang violence posed a serious obstacle to the project’s status for orderly administration. The resolution to this problem was a meeting with Magic, and it came out that the gang members were Laker devotees. The gangs agreed to declare a truce and try to minimize hostilities on Magic Johnson’s word, which made the fanbase plain. As a result, Magic won another fight for LA, proving that he was the social hero of the city.
