NBA fans and associates were left in shock after the US jurisdiction decided to overturn the Roe V. Wade case. This case helped several citizens across the country for almost 50 years after it came into light in 1973. There are several reasons why this leaves a dent in the lives of the women of America.

For several years, the governing bodies of the US have fought hard to uphold the rights to abortion that Roe vs Wade had given in 1973. Even former President Donald Trump had appointed authorities to fortify the act during his administration. Less than 24 hours prior, the country was selection the Title XI law that prohibited gender based discrimination in schools, or any institution funded by the federal government which included sports leagues.

The NBA and WNBA have been heavy supporters of women’s rights and equality. Over the years, several athletes associated with both leagues have spoken out against unequal pay cheques to female athletes as opposed to male. They have spoken out about several other social issues that have prevailed over the years. Recently, Adam Silver and Cathy Engelbert, commissioners both leagues came out with a statement addressing the shocking decision of the Constitution.

“The NBA and WNBA believe that women should be able to make their own decisions concerning their health and future, and we believe that freedom must be protected. We will continue to advocate for gender and health equity, including ensuring our employees have access to reproductive health care, regardless of their location.” Many other players have expressed their sorrow over the events.

ESPN’s Malika Andrews shares an emotion moment on live television
