Good news for Boston Celtics fans emerges as reigning DPOY, Marcus Smart makes his return to the team’s facilities. Although he is not involved in any intense workouts, he was seen focusing on weight training and continuing a recovery regimen to return to an array of postseason injuries.

Marcus played through injuries in different series, starting from the conference semis against the Bucks. Smart was playing through a right foot sprain following the Milwaukee series, a sprained right ankle suffered midway through the east finals, and he aggravated a long-running right thigh ailment that forced him out of Game 2 against the Bucks.

It’s been less than three months since the Warriors claimed their 4th title defeating the Celtics in 6 games, and now many Celtics players are coming back for preparing for the 2023 season.

Boston Celtics star guard Marcus Smart is beginning to approach 100% as the training camp period nears this month. While in an interview with CLNS Media, Smart reflects on his ankle condition. Head Coach Ime Udoka emphasized a recovery period for the rough and banged-up Celtics group after a comparatively long postseason run.

Smart in particular spent most of the summer trying to slowly ramp up toward next season, his ninth in Boston. Reigning defensive player told, “My ankle is feeling better, it’s still healing, so I’m dealing with that.”

Smart told CLNS. “Just giving it (Ankle) as much rest as I can, but definitely back on the court. I’m definitely back into the action. It feels like yesterday we just started playing, we haven’t really missed a beat, but I’m definitely doing everything I can to be ready for next season and to go deeper. I’m pretty close (to 100%).”

Reflecting on the period he had to make recovery Smart added, “Obviously it’s September, you don’t want to be in June, July, May shape right now so I’m trying not to go too crazy, but I’m really close and I’ve been doing this going into my ninth season. So for me, I know exactly what I need and what I need to get myself ready so I’ll so be there.”

Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart went down with an ankle injury in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Miami Heat. He was already struggling with his fitness during the semis series against the Bucks, but then triumphantly made a strong come-back in the series.

Boston Celtics made a massive surge in the playoffs, taking down strong competition from the Nets, Bucks, and Miami Heat. Though they had to play 7 game series in both semis and finals in the East, the young team showed resilience moving ahead in the games. Smart also had the best season of his career, starting 71 games, winning the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award, and playing a large part in an NBA Finals run. He averaged 12 points and six assists in those 71 starts and put up the second highest shooting percentage of his career at 41%.

Just 2 games away from the championship, Celtics looked to add some experience and offensive firepower to a defensively strong roaster. The team’s goal continues to be winning a championship. Marcus will have more help as well. Boston brought in former NBA Rookie of the Year Malcolm Brogdon to add some guard depth off of the bench.

The two have very similar play styles, which will benefit both Smart and the Boston Celtics. Brogdon’s presence will enable Smart, Brown, and Tatum to rest periodically, and in rotation, allowing them to have a better postseason.
