“My mother always loved my hair, before she passed away” Marcus Smart reveals how he has honored his mom by coloring his hair green ahead of Game 6

Losing a game hurts, losing a loved one breaks you to pieces. Marcus Smart is someone who lost her beloved mother in 2018, and has been remembering her in whenever he steps on the court. Marcus Smart is hard to miss on the hardwood, as he plays with immaculate passion driving his athleticism, he is a green blur on the court, pouncing on loose balls and defending on his toes.

The Boston are in a bit of a pickle now as they try draw level with the Warriors in Game 6, after losing Game 5 at the Chase Centre. The Celtics had a poor 4th quarter, which led to a 104-94 loss for them, as Golden State gained the lead in the NBA Finals at 3-2.

While Stephen Curry had carried the Warriors to victory, the Warriors provided him with plenty of help in Game 5. Four other players besides Curry scored in double-figures for Golden State, led by a determined Andrew Wiggins and his stellar 26 point 13 rebound game and Klay Thompson’s 21 points. The Warriors are definitely looking good to go out and grab that NBA Championship, provided Boston Celtics cannot stop their offensive flurry.

Marcus Smart was whistled for a technical foul then an offensive foul in a one-second span early in the fourth. He overcame a slow start to score 20 points, as Boston fell again once again, being unable to avenge their Game 4 home loss to Curry and company.

The Celtics weren’t viewed as title contenders when Marcus Smart shockingly called out All-Star teammates Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown for refusing to pass the ball after a November loss to the Bulls. Marcus Smart, has now transformed into a indispensable unit in this well-oiled machine of Boston Celtics.

He is without a doubt one of the most important players on this roster, the Defensive Player Of The Year, and they probably would not be where they are now. It has been even easier to pick out Smart during Boston’s run to the NBA Finals. Smart dyed his hair green ahead of Boston’s second-round matchup with the Milwaukee Bucks, and that’s been his look since.

The Celtics point guard explained to ESPN, that although his choice of hair color has to do with green being the main shade for the Boston Celtics, it’s a tribute to his late mother, Camellia, who died in 2018 after a battle with cancer.

“My mom, before she passed away, always loved my hair, things I was doing with it, from the braids to letting it grow out,” Smart said. Then I started to dye it, and she really liked that. She always said she wanted to see me in green, but obviously, she passed away, so she never got to see me.”

“So, when we started this playoff run, I was like, ‘For her, I’ma gonna go have it dyed and see what it looks like. Everybody loved it and so now it’s kinda here.” Smart confessed with a heavy heart, as he reminisced the times with her mother.

Smart is more than just a vocal leader. He’s the heart and soul of the team while also being the vet that guys like Jayson Tatum and company can look to in that locker room. Smart’s love for his mother has always been a big part of who he is. After being drafted by the Celtics in 2014, he bought her a new house as a way of thanking her for raising him and for all of her support throughout the years.

“It’s probably one of the biggest accomplishments as a young man, is to give your mom what she always wanted. And to take care of her, especially after she takes care of you all those years. To make her happy, it’s a blessing,” said Smart about his how serene it felt. Smart had previously sported various hairstyles including his long-standing braided look.

He remarked about how his mother used to like what he did his hair and that she wanted to see him dye his hair green before she passed away. Come Playoffs, Smart said he decided to adopt the look in a tribute to his late mother. And once he noticed that the people around him liked it too, it stayed on.

On Sept 16 2018 Marcus lost his mother, who was battling against cancer. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown also flew to Dallas to support their teammate and friend during tough period. Smart said on that time, “My mom passed; they flew all the way to Dallas to the Funeral, That was for real, there was no tactics. We have special bond outside basketball, and to be able to go to war with those guys makes the bond even stronger.”

Splash brother draining 3’s to the Celtics outclassing them in the next, it has been going back and forth for the first 4 games of the NBA Finals. The Boston Celtics’ ‘Big 3’ have been marvelous so far, as Tatum, Brown, and Smart became the first trio of teammates to have at least 20 points, five assists, and five rebounds in an NBA Finals game since 1984, in their Game 3 victory against the Warriors. With the 2022 NBA Finals being slowly tipping towards the Warriors, will Celtics once again stamp their authority at home in Game 6? Or will Golden State complete their path to glory? Sit back and enjoy !
