The NBA has experienced multiple injuries during this years playoffs, with games being played almost ever alternate day, something which Mark Cuban rather dislikes . Its been harder for the players to refresh themselves after a game, especially in the series between the Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics. The Celtics were expected to be tired heading into the matchup and both teams have dealt with major injuries already in their series. Last night, before the start of the Dallas Mavericks’ Game 4 matchup against the Golden State Warriors, team owner Mark Cuban revealed that he believes he knows what is causing the uptick in injuries.

Game 4 had a looming sense of despair all around the stadium, as everyone mourned the the loss of 19 children’s lives and 2 teachers as well, in a traumatic shooting at at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Doncic had 30 points and 14 rebounds, and the Mavericks beat Golden State 119-109 in Game 4 on Tuesday night, when there was a 16-minute rain delay at the start of the second half and the Warriors cut a 29-point deficit down to single digits late.

It was a performance to forget for the Warriors, though their fourth-quarter flurry makes some of the overall stats look decent. Stephen Curry had a team-high of 20 points, but was off-radar tonight, shooting just 7 of 16 from the field. Jonathan Kuminga was a bright spot in defeat with 17 points and 8 rebounds.

There were already plenty of reasons to be anti-play-in tournament already, however Dallas Mavericks owner, Mark Cuban seems to have come up with another one after seeing this year’s NBA playoffs play out. He thinks the tournament’s slot in the NBA schedule is leading to more injury and fatigue during the actual postseason. Last season, we saw injuries to Trae Young, Kawhi Leonard, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Kyrie Irving, over the course of the playoffs. This season hasn’t been much better for key pieces of Memphis Grizzlies and Boston Celtics, with Ja Morant and Marcus Smart getting injured before key encounters for their respective teams.

Jayson Tatum and Jimmy Butler have both been injured in that same series. Cuban’s point about relaxing the body also certainly makes sense as players need time to recover in able to be able to avoid injuries and teams like the Dallas Mavericks and Boston Celtics who needed all 7 games in their last series haven’t been afforded much time to rest.

Let’s be honest about this. The play-in still isn’t going anywhere and Cuban’s comments aren’t going to change that. And if there’s going to be any change here, there needs to be something more than anecdotal evidence from Cuban’s observations. If Mark Cuban is actually correct about the cause of these playoff injuries, the NBA just might need to decide whether a few more entertaining games at the start of the playoffs are worth the risk of injuries to stars in later rounds.
