“Stealing money and forging my signatures to buy night clubs” Matt Barnes’ attempt to wish her ex-wife on her birthday, exposed the ‘toxic’ couple in front of millions
Matt Barnes with Gloria Govan
In 2018, Matt Barnes posted a picture of the couple and their two boys on Instagram to wish his ex-wife Gloria Govan a happy birthday. These social media exploits obviously didn’t go as planned as the former couple had heated exchanges back and forth.
It was unexpected to see Matt Barnes wish his ex-wife Gloria Govan a happy birthday given that the two have already engaged in some highly publicized confrontations. Unfortunately, the goodwill soon turned nasty. Govan turned 33 in 2018, and to commemorate the milestone Barnes—who has dealt with his own share of well-publicized issues with Govan over the last several years—posted a picture of Govan and the couple’s twin boys on Instagram. In addition, he tweeted what seemed to be a beautiful birthday greeting for Govan while facing legal disputes. It was lovely till when his ex-wife and him exchanged comments on that post.
Matt Barnes and his prolonged NBA career
Since being chosen in the second round of the 2002 draught, Matt Barnes has played for nine different franchises. The Warriors were Barnes’ best choice to join in 2006 after bouncing from teams. He would join a group that included seasoned players like Jason Richardson, Stephen Jackson, and Monta Ellis. Barnes benefited from working with the legendary Don Nelson because he was able to display his whole skill set for the Warriors. Barnes and the Warriors reached their peak in the 2007 playoffs when they defeated the Nowitzki-led No. 1 seed Mavericks. His final stop was his second stint with the Warriors, who he joined after the Sacramento Kings released him from his contract in 2016.
Barnes has had a fascinating career, frequently contributing more on the floor than his numbers would suggest. Even though he only reached double figures four times, he played for a considerable amount of time in the league. Even though he wasn’t always the league’s most well-liked player, his performances benefitted a number of teams and led to him getting regular playing time on strong contenders. Barnes is delighted to have been a member of the legendary “We Believe Warriors,” which remains one of the NBA teams with the greatest appeal to fans. In 2017, he and the Warriors would win the NBA title, although Barnes would later claim he doesn’t consider that a ring.
Barnes and his social media battle with ex-wife
Gloria Govan and Matt Barnes had already been in the news, but when birthday came, Barnes turned to Instagram to wish the mother of his two children a happy birthday. Going by Govan’s response to Barnes in the comments section immediately after Barnes’ Instagram post came online, there didn’t appear to be any offence involved by the caption Barnes wrote. She instantly responded by pointing out that she would be seeing Barnes in court and took aim at him. Barnes’ initial message didn’t appear to be intended as a dig at Govan, but after some time, he levelled some serious accusations at her before ending it with a somewhat more crude remark.
Barnes actually wrote: “Well…Stealing money my social security & forging my signature your parents nightclub and house is pretty serious. but hey.. I tried! See you in court! Oh & happy bday.”
Matt Barnes and Govan have been in the headlines together for the wrong reasons previously, not just now. Barnes hasn’t taken Govan’s new relationship with Derek Fisher quietly. 2015 saw a nasty fight break out when Fisher visited Barnes’ home and his children informed him over the phone. Barnes has a reputation for being an enforcer in the NBA, but it seems like this time he wasn’t attempting to be cruel or assault anybody, and ultimately, he was still striving to protect oneself.
