Was Patrick Beverley’s shove on Chris Paul in the previous playoffs anything personal? Hell yes! If you don’t us, then the Timberwolves guard’s latest rant on the Point God makes everyone believe the same. However, just like many analysts, former NBA player Matt Barnes has decided to defend the Phoenix Suns marquee even after disappointing Game 7 performance.
To those who are not aware, Chris Paul managed to score only 10 points in clutch Game 7 whilst being on the floor for more than 30 minutes. Patrick Beverley somehow fired shots at the former while indicating that he was ‘faking’ his injury to get out of the misery bundled upon by Dallas Mavericks.
Former NBA Player burns Pat Bev for dissing Chris Paul
“There’s a thin line between being critical and disrespecting,” Barnes said. “And I feel like what Pat Beverley did today to Chris Paul, was completely disrespectful and out of the line.” Barnes’s passion is evident on this issue. Chris Paul is a former teammate and friend of his, but Barnes would probably have a similar reaction regardless of who Beverley was openly disrespecting.
Patrick Beverley’s antics are not surprising to anyone. The Timberwolves guard has established a reputation as a hustle player on the court who isn’t afraid to trash talk opponents. It has become a part of his game. And typically, it doesn’t cross the line. Yes, there are people who don’t appreciate it. But players have been talking trash on the court for many years now.
But Chris Paul surely has guys like Matt Barnes and Damian Lillard who are there to defend him. Well, if you think there surely if a way to condemn stars for their performers, but for Beverley it seems like his analyst-like-take has taken a personal turn. With gradually members in the NBA world coming to criticize Beverley, will we witness Chris Paul too coming out in the open? Remains to be seen. But for now, all eyes will be on the western conference finals between Mavs vs Warriors.
