” It’s special” – Matt Ryan gets emotional after insane winner against Milwaukee Bucks in the summer league
In addition to scoring 23 points for the team and shooting 6/11 from a 3-point range, Matt Ryan also hit the jackpot . With only about six seconds left in the game, Ryan was dribbling across the field, praying, sinking and injuring his ankle in the process. It was a great moment that Ryan was asked about after the game. When asked about his journey to getting to this point and how his hard work has paid off, Ryan was emotional. He told his story and said how grateful he was to be part of the Celtics organization.
“It was quite emotional. It’s been a crazy 11 months, I have been at home for a year and a half. I don’t know if you’ve heard my story, but I was driving Door Dash a year ago. To be here, to be part of the Boston Celtics squad, it’s special. I told you guys that this year I missed a couple of pairs at the G-League. I don’t think I’d hit a game winner like that for a long time. Literally, since the same as junior high school. Long time no see, so it feels great.”“ Ryan said holding back tears
Ryan couldn’t hold back his tears as he reflected his journey to the NBA after going undrafted out of Chattanooga in 2020. He shared how he was driving for Door Dash a year ago, so to become part of the Celtics’ roster was so huge for him. He spoke to the media about that part of the journey, and as a shooter, he’s always in the gym looking for ways to improve.
“With all shooters, it’s the reps, countless hours,” Ryan said. “Last year I went to the gym alone for a whole year and I hit the gym four or five hours alone every day for the whole year waiting for an opportunity. All those representations, all that work, I finally got a chance to show it off. “ The Celtics have several positions in the open line-up, including a two-way spot. If Ryan continues to play at this level, he will most likely return to Boston next year.
