“Very sorry for offending anyone” Matteo Berrettini issues heartfelt apology after unknowingly calling out LeBron James as ‘GORILLA’

Tennis star Matteo Berrettini seems to have got onto the wrong note with NBA Fans after Laker Nation lashed out on him for calling out LeBron James as a ‘Gorilla’. Although the seven-time-ATP singles title holder had no intention rather than applauding the LA Laker superstar after he dropped 42 points in the Drew League on Saturday. Little did he know that he had to face the wrath of the NBA fans.

After some backlash, Berrettini was quick to delete his post on Instagram and quickly sent out a heartfelt apology to LeBron James and his loyal NBA Fans, if in case he had hurt anyone’s sentiments. Interestingly, the Italian playmaker has huge respect for LeBron and has been seen evidently appreciating his talent on several occasions.

To those who are not aware, in a conversation with La Stampa, the Italian opined that Rafael Nadal was similar to LeBron James, while Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic were like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant.

“The LeBron James of tennis? Nadal, in terms of physicality and why they both exploded [onto the scene] very young,” Berrettini told La Stampa. “I would compare Federer to Michael Jordan. Djokovic reminds me of Kobe Bryant, for how he remains cold in difficult situations.”

Over the course of LeBron James’ 20 years in the league, he has faced racial abuse on multiple occasions, majorly off the court. Being one of the biggest reasons why he couldn’t get on the same page as former US President Donald Trump. But this surely was one occasions where the young 26-year-old tennis star had no ill intentions, but just to applaud his role model and favorite basketball icon.
