Max Kellerman on LeBron James and Michael Jordan

Lakers superstar LeBron James is looking for a sports team ownership in LA, which made sports media personality Max Kellerman comment sarcastically. Moreover the veteran analyst took a dig at his early exit from 2 consecutive NBA seasons.

Los Angeles Lakers Megastar LeBron James expressed a desire to own a sports team in Vegas in the unreleased episode of “the Shop”. Though he had not clarified the sport or any specific team he wishes to be connected with as an owner, the idea of the King owning a team is very much intriguing. James recently became the first active NBA player with a net worth of over a billion dollars. Interestingly another basketball player to be worth 10 figures is the arguable GOAT Michael Jordan, with whom LeBron James is regularly compared. MJ earned that moniker 11 years after his retirement, and when his stake in the Charlotte Hornets increased to 89.5 percent in 2014.

TV Personality and ESPN host Max Kellerman took the opportunity to mock LeBron for his recent wish and also mentioned that at least LeBron can try to be better than Michael Jordan, as on the court that seems impossible now.

Very recently LeBron James broke into the billionaire list and is one of few NBA players to reach that figure. Rare to that is full ownership of any sports team – which only Michael Jordan has done till now. While both the megastars were drawn in comparisons for various aspects on and off the court, LeBron’s wish to own a team adds another dimension to that.

Similar to Jordan, LeBron James is also very successful in the league; they both have various business interests and proved profitable in most of them. LeBron James owns about a 2% stake in Liverpool – a soccer club in England but doesn’t have complete ownership of any sports team

Max Kellerman mocks LeBron for his early exit from the 2021 and 22 seasons. He said, “Finally be better than Jordan at something. On the court that ship has sailed… MJ is a bad owner but the greatest player of all time.”  He considers that James’ dominance in the league is nearly over and buying a successful sports team could be the only way possible for the king to beat Michael Jordan.

LeBron James is 37 years old and may well see his playing days coming to end sooner than later. So it’s a good decision to look after some “profitable activity” post his playing career. James had also talked about owning his own NBA team since 2016. And more interestingly Bill Simmons of The Ringer suggested Fenway Sports Group might be involved in the NBA’s potential expansion teams.

With the NBA constantly debating expansion, and earlier this week LeBron James mentioned that he would like to see a franchise in Las Vegas – exactly what the league is looking to do.

4-time NBA Champion James is always on the lookout for profitable business ventures, and an NBA expansion could fit exactly in that category. Given the Vegas Market and NFL’s presence in the area will allow the business to grow at a faster rate.

Well, the more intriguing thing about James’ ownership would be the possibility of his son playing in his team. His oldest son Bronny is slowly making his way up the ranks and is destined to step foot in the NBA. But whether LBJ wants to compete with Jordan or not is a separate topic. At the given point James becoming an owner of an NBA Franchise is a pretty realistic idea.
