The Memphis Grizzlies have finally got some reasons to celebrate after a disastrous start to the season without their main man Ja Morant. The 24-year-old prodigy started the season serving a 25-game ban for a couple of controversial Instagram videos that he posted in 2023.
His return seems to have resulted in a sudden increase in expectations and excitement among the Grizzlies’ fans. Those emotions seem to have affected the franchise mascot Grizz as well, who is a fuzzy blue bear seen courtside during all Grizzlies’ home games at the FedEx Forum.
Before the recent loss against the Sacramento Kings, Grizz appeared to have taken things a couple of notches too far. In a hilarious dance, he performed a range of NSFW steps and concluded his performance with a lengthy twerk.
This brought forth a range of hilarious reactions from fans, as one fan was seen covering a kid’s eyes to avoid him looking directly at the inappropriate dance steps. As it turned out later, the kid was in fact Ja Morant’s daughter. A social media user claimed that Grizz should be put on the watch list, suggesting that what he pulled off was basically a crime:

Regardless, in a season that has proven utterly tough for the Grizzlies, the mascot simply lightened fans’ mood and gave them a reason to smile. Ja Morant’s return might have initially sparked a 4-game winning streak, but his subsequent illness has resulted in 2 straight losses, since.
Ja Morant is crucial to anything the Memphis Grizzlies achieve this season
The Memphis Grizzlies are heavily reliant on Ja Morant and have in recent seasons created a team around him. The Grizzlies rely on quick transitions and an active physical defense to force turnovers.

That, alongside the fact that their young attacking core is headed by Ja and Desmond Bane, means that they had emerged as one of the most exciting teams in recent times. This time around, however, things fell apart in the absence of Ja Morant, which was also why they ended up crashing out in the Playoffs first round last season.
Regardless, with things seemingly set to improve, fans mostly had stunned reactions to how Grizz tried to raise spirits:

Now, with Morant back, they will be looking to climb up the difficult Western Conference and get to the playoff spots, for starters. The Memphis Grizzlies are currently 13th with a 10-22 record and need to continue racking up wins to climb up.
