Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant reacts to Aces winning first ever WNBA Championship
Ja Morant and Las Vegas Ace
On Sunday, the Las Vegas Aces won their first WNBA title. They defeated their arch rivals Connecticut Sun with a score-line 78-71 in Game 4 of the WNBA Finals. Memphis Grizzlies star player Ja Morant showered them with appreciation on reaching the historic landmark.
Morant tweeted to congratulate the WNBA team with a one-emoji and one-word reaction as he wrote: “? ringskii @LVAces” He had kept timely updates of the WNBA Finals, and the Grizzlies guard will be hoping to take his team to a title win in the upcoming 2022-2023 NBA season. He successfully took Memphis to the Western Conference Semi-finals last season, but an injury forced him out, and his team faced a tough defeat.
The Aces were the favorites to win when the WNBA Finals started. A scintillating performance by the whole team. For the Aces, Chelsea Gray scored 20 points, five rebounds, and six assists, Kelsey Plum scored 15 points, three triples, and Jackie Young scored 13 points, five boards, and eight assists. Veteran Riquana Williams also came up big for Las Vegas Aces with 17 points in just 22 minutes of action.
Rivalry between JA Morant led Grizzlies and the Dubs
The Golden State Warriors defeated the Memphis Grizzlies in the Western Conference semifinals. The series saw fierce and competitive gameplay from both sides, ending with the Warriors winning. The Grizzlies and their fans believed Morant’s injury in Game 3 led to the team’s downfall. Hadn’t Morant been injured, they would have easily won. Morant even mentioned recently, “I felt like, me personally and my teammates, we were the favorites in that series.”
He also termed that the Grizzlies had a great season, but the Warriors were a better team then; hence, they won. After these Morant statements, the media quickly labelled these two teams as arch-rivals for the upcoming seasons. NBA league has previously seen rivalries such as Lakers-Celtics, Celtics-76ers, Lakers-Kings, and Bulls-Knicks. But now, everyone respects each other, and one series between Grizzlies-Warriors doesn’t make them fierce rivals. But, Memphis will be eager to take revenge on the Warriors for destroying their dream of lifting the title last season by proving that they are a better team this season.
