Metta Sandiford-Artest asked Draymond Green 'to find a balance' while undergoing therapy during indefinite suspension

Draymond Green has come a long way since his indefinite suspension after hitting Jusuf Nurkic in the face. Many credit his resolve to get better, and the therapy he underwent to bring about his so far solid character. However, during that therapy, another player with a violent past, Metta Sandiford-Artest, advised the Golden State Warriors superstar based on his past experiences.

In Draymond Green’s discussion with Howard Beck of The Ringer, many details about his resurgence were revealed. Beck referenced that a former NBA champion and a player who had a similar mindset on the court had nothing but the best wishes for Green.

I’m rooting for him, to find a balance.

Metta Sandiford-Artest suggested that Draymond Green has to find the balance that is needed to stay on the court. Tilting the balance to one side can have disastrous effects. As was evidenced by Green’s indefinite suspension. Artest also tried to reach out to Green after he was issued the suspension.

Artest gave his own life’s work as an example to Green. He used to use his tenacity and aggression on the court to bring success to his career. But the wild side of it was when the infamous ‘Malice in the Palace’ occurred. The former player known as Metta World Peace and before that Ron Artest, was handed an 86-game suspension.

Artest underwent therapy the same way Green did. And he rightfully gave credit to his therapist after winning the NBA title with the late great Kobe Bryant in 2010. Artest wanted Green to bring that balance which helped him change his life for the better.

Draymond Green has found the balance so far

Draymond Green since coming back, has amassed only 2 technical fouls to date. That is a remarkable turnaround for a player who averaged 14 per season. Although in the 21 games so far, Green has not given up his tenacity. He has chirped away at opponents, referees, and teammates when needed. His tenacity is an integral part of his game.

Green’s importance to the Golden State Warriors is evident in the 10-11 record the Warriors held with him out. Since returning to the lineup, the Warriors are 14-7, sparked by his playmaking and defensive prowess. And along with his tenacity, Green is finding that balance that has largely been the staple of his career.

Metta Sandiford-Artest’s balance led to him winning a world title and being labeled as one of Kobe Bryant’s best teammates. If Green can keep that balance during the final few years of his career, who knows what else he can achieve?
