“He got potential to be a world talent,” Heat’s Michael Beasley fanboys over Ja Morant dubbing his future back-to-back MVP
Ja Morant, the incredibly gifted guard for the Memphis Grizzlies, may be the best of the current generation of young talents in the NBA. Morant is a high-flying guard who is incredibly explosive in the open court, but he has improved his half-court game, and he is a real challenge for opposing teams to contain.
Michael Beasley, a former forward for the Miami Heat, believes that Morant will eventually surpass all competitors, “The next person I think is going to win MVP for the next couple years is Ja Morant,” Beasley said. “He’s one of those back-to-back MVPs. He got the potential to be a world talent. The way he plays is brand new. You got to watch how he handles the ball, you got to watch the moves he makes. His rights, his lefts, his euros. I ain’t gonna lie, Ja Morant is going to be the best player in the league.”
How much support they offer him could be crucial to the Grizzlies’ hopes of making it far in the playoffs this season. Desmond Bane, a winger who is currently in his third season, averages 21.4 points per game, while Dillon Brooks, their third-leading scorer, averages 17.0 points per game.
Morant has helped the Grizzlies, who have a 27-13 record, soar. His team is rated top in defensive rating, and he is averaging 27.2 points and 8.0 assists per game. Later this month, Memphis will have a tough five-game road trip against some good and talented teams that will test it and perhaps give it some more seasoning ahead of the postseason.
Ja Morant gives equipment to a Grizzlies fan whose autographed ball was stolen
After a young Memphis Grizzlies fan had her prized basketball stolen, Ja Morant jumped in to ease the anguish. At Monday’s game against the San Antonio Spurs, Ellie Hughes, an 11-year-old Grizzlies fan, was attempting to grab Morant’s attention for an autograph when two individuals stole her unique basketball.
For the previous six years, Hughes, of Forrest City, Arkansas, had gathered the players’ signatures on the ball. After learning about her situation on social media, Morant contacted her family, invited her to the Spurs’ rematch on Wednesday night, and gave her his game-used jersey and his brand-new Ja 1 Nike sneakers.
“It’s something I pretty much love to do,” Morant said of his warm gesture. He continued, “You touch somebody’s heart like that. A big fan of the Grizzlies for years. It’s moments like that mean the most to them. Something they will never forget.” As the Grizzlies defeated San Antonio 135-129 on Wednesday for their eighth straight victory, Morant put on a show as well, scoring 38 points. With 3:35 remaining, he added a right-handed hammer dunk over Spurs center Jakob Poeltl to help Memphis hold onto their advantage.
