Adidas, Underarmous, New Balance and there are Jordans. Surely a known name in the world of basketball, every kid who has an affection towards basketball knows what it would mean to own a pair of that shoe. And for Michael Jordan, it would mean even more if you wore one of his shoes if you were around him. That’s what Andre Ward suggests.
In a recent interview, former American professional boxer Andre Ward shared a story when Jordan almost made the world boxing champ’s friend remove his Adidas shoe.
Andre Ward on All The Smoke podcast:
We’re all in a boardroom at the facility. He comes in there scanning shoes. You know I was good, but one of my guys had on some Adidas, though. People in that industry, they take it seriously. He came in and was like, ‘What’s up with your man?’ I’m like, ‘I told you, bro, not to wear them’. He ain’t right for that. Almost (made him take the shoes off).
Andre Ward said
Ward and Jordan’s friend way back when the athlete signed with Jordan making him one the oldest active athletes to be represented by the luxurious brand to this day. Ward, who later retired from boxing, has an undefeated record of 32-0 and is regarded as one of the greatest boxers of all time. But even for the best boxers, he couldn’t defend his friend from keeping a promise he signed a long time back.
And for Jordan, his brand to this day has been one of the leading forces in the world of basketball. From a name to a brand, it has been quite a journey for Michael himself. And for sure the name in itself is a proper household name, etching in the books of NBA history.

Michael Jordan and Nike deal
The story between Michael Jordan and Nike has come a long way in success and pride. But how did it all start for the icon?
It was Vaccaro in 1984, who convinced Nike to bring a young rookie Michael Jordan to their family and got him to sign the deal, offering him 15 million dollars with a five-year contract that would go on to create the now iconic ‘Air’ Jordan brand. Since then it’s history. The brand has taken off since then, marking a special rise to a new history in basketball footwear.
From a rookie’s name to one of the tycoon’s brands in the NBA, the whole Jordan story has been nothing but inspirational. And with the brand continues to sign young talents –building the family more and more, with an eye to take the game to the next level.
