Michael Jordan BRUTALLY DISSES today’s NBA players for ‘bad work ethic’
Michael Jordan believes getting things easily has brought bad work ethic in the modern NBA stars.
Michael Jordan
Michael Jordan is undoubtedly one of the best players to ever touch a basketball. He is also in the GOAT debate and the very first global superstar of the league. Michael Jordan was able to achieve all this and generational wealth through his killer mentality and unreal work ethic. MJ was locked-in throughout his career and barely took any days off even if he had flu.
Michael Jordan’s strong work ethic and great willpower led him to multiple on and off-the-court greats. He ended his illustrious career by making millions fall in love with basketball. He also is an inspiration and role model to many great players in the league. Michael Jordan had to go through a complete journey to achieve his status when he was balling in the league. All of it was possible due to his hard work and competitiveness.
But unfortunately, modern-era basketball players are lacking it. And, now we’ll probably never see a superstar in making from the ground. As many achieve that status even before playing a single NBA game. Even Michael Jordan believes that the modern era of the league where players or even prospects get a lot of things with ease has brought a bad work ethic for stars.
In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Michael Jordan discussed the difference between his generation’s stars and the modern NBA. While doing so he gave a detailed explanation by saying: “Most of the young kids coming in now, we don’t know how good they’re gonna be. But yet they got 5-year guarantees, millions of dollars, admiration from many… You look back at our era, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, we earned what we got.”
Further, talking about the new generation stars and how the corporate world just bets on them, Michael Jordan added: “And I don’t mean to demean the young kids, because this is something they have to learn. When corporate America came to us, we had a game that could validate their sponsorships. Now they get that before they even play a game. So you’re rolling the dice to see if this kid is going to be any good or not. So in essence, you’re paying the kid off of the potential that they’re going to be great. I think it sets a bad work ethic. When you get something so easily, you’re not gonna work as hard.”
Michael Jordan isn’t wrong with his take and the modern NBA has been through this transition right in front of us. As the hype for prospects are unreal and they already achieve superstar status and a bag with endorsement deals even before stepping foot on the NBA hardwood. Even teenagers who are in high school or college are able to sign NIL deal these days.

Is Michael Jordan right with his take of bad work ethic for the modern stars?
Michael Jordan is the GOAT of basketball for many reasons. He correctly called out the modern-era stars years ago and now all of it is turning into reality. Just in the last decade, we have seen several busts who the basketball world thought would be great. Also, the NBA stars like Zion Williamson and Ja Morant who have earned a lot of things easily are turning out to be very disappointing with their off-court presence.
The league also has stars who have been getting paid every day and continue to ball. But aren’t ready to put in the extra work and improve a particular skill of theirs. Back in the day, players had to prove themselves several times to achieve the bag, superstar status, and global recognition.
But now it’s not that hard to become famous and easy times aren’t providing the best of the talents to the world. Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Stephen Curry who are now considered all-time greats had to prove themselves for years both on and off the court.
