Michael Jordan encountered numerous opponents throughout his illustrious career. From the “Bad Boy” Detroit Pistons to the John Stockton-led Utah Jazz, he achieved success against every challenger. MJ displayed such fierceness that even when facing deficits, he engaged in trash talk with his opponents, confident in his ability to stand his ground.

While MJ directed his trash talk at opponents, he reserved no energy for the Toronto Raptors. Despite the Raptors’ transformation into the 2019 NBA Champions and their consistent playoff appearances, they struggled in the 90s. They frequently missed the postseason and struggled in the regular season as well.

Tracy McGrady, a former Raptors player, and NBA legend, revealed that MJ didn’t expend any effort on trash talk directed at his team, perhaps deeming it unworthy of his words. McGrady, on his appearance on Showtime hosted by Brandon Robinson, shared, “We weren’t a very good team at that time so I’m sure he was like, ‘There’s no need to even waste my trash talking on this sorry a*s team.’”

McGrady also noted that he didn’t engage in trash talk with MJ during his time with the Wizards.“I don’t recall him talking any trash when he was with the Wizards but I didn’t have any run-ins.” However, McGrady added that MJ did engage in trash talk during All-Star games due to the presence of the best players. “Naturally, during All-Star Weekend, Mike talked smack because we’re all together,” McGrady remarked.

While Tracy McGrady didn’t experience any trash talk from the GOAT, he would have gotten a lot of flak from him if the trade which sent him to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for MJ’s sidekick Scottie Pippen went through. But that wasn’t the case because the trade was vetoed by none other than MJ.

While talking on ESPN’s The Jump, McGrady talked about the trade saying that Bulls GM Jerry Krause was actively trying to trade Pippen. When he saw that McGrady was available to be drafted in the 1997 draft he thought of making that trade but MJ vetoed it which might have saved the Bulls because a rookie McGrady couldn’t have had the same impact that Scottie had in the next two championships they won in 1997 and 98.

“What a lot of people don’t know about that night is that Jerry Krause was actually trying to make a trade for me and Scottie Pippen,” McGrady said. “MJ called and axed that whole deal.
