Michael Jordan has often been the alpha male in the league, who has started countless traditions. One of which seems to be finding a way out of visiting the White House. To those who are not aware, every NBA Champion makes their visit to the White House in order to click a team picture with the current President. However, Jordan was one to blatantly disrespect the then President George Bush.

In the 90s, not many players could skip the visit to the White House, but Michael Jordan has already planned a vacation with his family on those dates. But it was all a ruse, as MJ just wanted to play golf and gamble. Phil Jackson’s Chicago Bulls had won the 1991 NBA Championship by beating the iconic Los Angeles Lakers, wherein Jordan won the first of his six NBA Finals accolades.

Unlike modern-day NBA, it was rare to witness an individual missing from the White House visit back in the 90s, yet His Airness was an exception. Michael Jordan’s friend and one of the people who were there with him in 1991, James Bouler, testified in an interview about the authenticity of the story. He said that he never questioned Jordan about the Bulls’ visit to meet the President.

However, he did reveal that President Bush felt disrespected and all this came about when Jordan had to testify for Bouler in a case many years later. Bouler felt the case was more of a political trial and everything was blamed on him. Moreover, the Chicago Bulls legend ended up owing Bouler $57,000 during the course of the gambling session. MJ was known for his gambling habits. It is indeed safe to say that Michael Jordan didn’t like to lose, whether it was in an NBA game or while gambling.
Perhaps this is what determines, Jordan’s winning ability on the court. He was one of those individuals who could not come second to anyone in any field he decided to involve himself into. Significantly this attribute has led MJ become a billionaire, even after retiring two decades ago from the league.
