There is a never-ending argument over who the greatest basketball player of all time is. Or at least that’s what everyone believes, but if one asks former Washington Wizards guard, Gilbert Arenas, the discussion over who is the greatest player of all time is over because Michael Jordan’s “ultimate” season more than thirty years ago, decided the matter. He believes that Jordan is still the best, and with no one in his vicinity currently.
Many people still consider Michael Jordan to be the greatest player of all time because of his amazing six-champion NBA career. Gilbert Arenas asserts that Jordan became the GOAT before all the accolades and his perfect record in the NBA Finals, which are frequently cited as reasons why he is the greatest.
Gilbert Arena said via Podcast P, “
There was no ring. The ring is just what they get to use now. It was just the way he did it. He carried what we have now, a solo mission. It's hard to beat solo missions with stats.
Long after that, people started talking about how the Bulls needed six rings because, as per history, none of their six NBA titles occurred during Michael Jordan’s finest season.
LeBron can win six rings right now, but they are not giving it to him. You are not giving a dude who started this joint. So basically, everybody is fighting for a second.
After surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, LeBron James cemented his status as the game’s greatest player. Gil asserted that although he is certain that MJ is the one, the rest are all fighting for the scraps.
Michael Jordan thinks he is not the GOAT of the game
For most NBA fans, Michael Jordan’s name has a direct connection to the GOAT debate. Upon examining Jordan’s achievements, many declare him to be the greatest basketball player of all time. However, Jordan holds the opposite opinion. Before the 2003 NBA All-Star game, Jordan candidly discussed his reasons for not being the greatest basketball player of all time with John Thompson.
Micahel Jordan while replying to John Thompson, said,
False, Cuz I didn't play against you know, all the greatest players before me, and those were the players that influenced my game.
Unlike his teammates and NBA experts, who had minor issues selecting a single NBA star as their basketball GOAT, Mike has a different viewpoint.
Jordan has never offered a self-serving response when questioned about his place around the greatest of all-time debate. Rather, he has paid tribute to the players who came before him and who helped mold his style of play.
Because of this, there will always be a player whose playing style defines that particular age. In light of this, making comparisons between historical periods is not an excellent idea, and Jordan is not a fan of it.
