The NBA has a knack for generating debates of comparisons between two players. Mostly, these comparisons are drawn between former and current players as to who is better. While it is next to impossible to draw a conclusion, many draw the line based on stats. For a very long time, the most popular topic of debate has been that of Michael Jordan vs LeBron James. There’s no doubt that both these players have dominated the game in their own games. Moreover, there’s no argument on whether or not they’re one of the greats. However, which one of them is the greatest of all time is a heavily contested subject.
Both James and Jordan have achieved unbelievable feats in the game of basketball. Their fanbases, therefore, rightfully deserve to believe that their favorite player is better than the other. While MJ has won more championships, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar is the all-time leading scorer in NBA history. However, recently Jordan’s former teammate from the Chicago Bulls dynasty, Dennis Rodman, presented his opinions on the James vs Jordan debate.
Dennis Rodman was on ESPN’s First Take when he was asked about his views. “That’s been a big debate for a while now,” he said starting off. “If you look at Michael, the body work he’s done over the years and you look at LeBron the body work he’s done over the years,” he said. “Michael is the greatest player ever.” He then went on to justify his point. “Michael’s been injured one time. He never asked to sit out. He never asked for anything but only asked for respect and money. People don’t realise that when Michael Jordan was playing, for the first eight or nine years, he was barely making three million dollars. Compared to these guys making forty million.”
He then went on to say, “As far as LeBron and Michael. If Michael played in this era he would average 50 (points),” he said. “LeBron’s a great talent. No doubt,” he started explaining “But Michael’s right there. I don’t know why you guys discuss the goat,” he concluded.
How has LeBron James performed in the 2023 NBA Playoffs so far?
The 2022-23 NBA season was another historic season for LeBron James. He broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s long-held record of most points in NBA history. Moreover, the NBA veteran leads his team to the Western Conference Finals after securing the seventh seed. There’s no doubt that James has a paramount influence on his team. However, he is visibly past his prime years despite being in great shape. His struggles against the Denver Nuggets indicate that the four-time MVP is not in a state to be the lone top performer for his side anymore.
However, James has been absolutely phenomenal in yet another NBA playoff run. His leadership in the first-round series against the Memphis Grizzlies had fans in absolute awe as the Los Angeles Lakers eliminated the second seed in a 4-2 series win. The Western Conference Semi-Finals was yet another fine example of the advantage his experience brings to the Lakers. He charged through the Golden State Warriors who were the defending champions in a dominating 4-2 series yet again.
However, LeBron James is not having a great Western Conference Finals against Denver. The Lakers are in a huge deficit as the Nuggets have a strong 3-0 series lead. Moreover, the veteran has been under some sharp comments after his shooting struggles in Game 2. Although LA is not completely out yet, they need a magical comeback to advance to the NBA Finals. James has previously made history by coming back from a 3-1 deficit against the Warriors in the 2016 NBA Finals. Whether he does it again would be interesting to see.
