While Michael Jordan’s number in the NBA speaks volumes about why he should be deemed as the GOAT, he surely made fans about his human-self on occasions. These spoken off incidents never came on the court, but off it, in MJ’s love life which is as complicated as any. Given his stature, it is understandable that Jordan always wanted to protect his image, but on one particular occasion it surely didn’t come out clean.

Fans would be aware that Michael Jordan was never verbal about his personal or perhaps love life. Given that there were always cameras and eyeballs trying to catch his smallest of mistakes, it began impossible for Michael Jordan to get away with anything. Moreover, Michael Jordan had plenty of girlfriends, the first being Karla Knafel. This relationship lasted for 2 years, until 10 years later the Bulls legend decided to sue her.

Why did Michael Jordan pay $250k Karla Knafel?

To bring everyone on the same page, Michael admitted in the lawsuit in 2002 that he had a relationship with Karla Knafel more than a decade ago. He had already paid her $250,000 when she threatened to go public. Later that year, Jordan also had to go through a messy divorce with Juanita Vanoy, which involved costly settlements of around $168 million. Michael also paid around $2 million in legal fees. 

Karla Knafel’s lawyer claimed that she discovered she was pregnant with his child in November 1990. The Charlotte Hornets owner is said to have offered her $5 million that she would keep it a secret and not file a paternity suit. Karla, on the other hand, took him to court and sued him. Michael Jordan admitted to having a long relationship with her but denied promising to pay her that amount of money. Moreover, he filed a lawsuit against her for attempted extortion.

That being said, such instances only went onto show how Michael Jordan had issues just like us. Perhaps these taught him how to get even more mature with his following girlfriends. For now, it seems like His Airness has finally found the love-of-her-life in Yvette Prieto, who he married in 2013.
