Sacramento Kings head coach Mike Brown has been fined $50,000 for his altercation with a referee during the game against the Milwaukee Bucks. He showed game footage on a laptop later during the post-match press conference to back up his points about bad officiating. But that fine cost his family something more valuable.

Brown was at the post-game press conference after the Kings’ match against the Phoenix Suns yesterday. On asked about his reaction to the $50,000 fine, Brown said:

I was gonna take my grandson skiing, but I called and told her we probably won't be able to do it today unless the Ritz Carlton gives me a discount.

Mike Brown was agitated towards a referee during the game against the Bucks for a wrong call. He came off his bench and went at the referee on the court. Such was the aggressiveness that his players had to hold him back from making matters worse.

But Brown did not stop there. During the post-match press conference, Brown appeared with a laptop. He showed to the onlooking reporters where the referee got it wrong. Brown asked for consistency in the officiating of basketball games. The coach doubling down on his remarks about officiating as well as his on-court aggressiveness with a film study on his laptop earned this hefty fine.

Mike Brown deflecting his actual feelings regarding the fine

Mike Brown has coached in the league for a long time. He knows how the officiating works. While with the Sacramento Kings, he has been vocal about referees making bad calls now and then. Last season he was vocal about the bad officiating that cost the Kings close games.

So for him to try a hilarious response when asked about his true feelings was PR management at its best. He deflected the controversy to avoid more fines from the league. As per him, the officiating cost the Kings dearly in a one-point loss to the Bucks.

The response was hilarious enough to bring out laughs from the media. Brown managed to stay away from more reprimands in the best way he could.
