Mike Greenberg compares Stephen Curry's 2016 impact with Nikola Jokic this year's postseason run,
Stephen Curry, Mike Greenberg and Nikola Jokic
Nikola Jokic was clowned by the media many times in the past. Even though he bagged the MVP award for straight two years. He was never highlighted as a superstar and the league never portrayed him as the next big thing in basketball. But now, with him successfully leading the Denver Nuggets to their first-ever championship, while bagging the Finals MVP award. The genuine basketball world has started giving Jokic the correct recognition he has always deserved.
ESPN’s Mike Greenberg on the latest episode of “Get Up,” even threw out a legendary comparison for the big man. The analyst claimed him to have a lot of potential and be the next great influence who can run the league changing the game forever. Mike Greenberg brought Stephen Curry into the conversation while discussing if Nikola Jokic just had the greatest postseason ever.
While doing so and complementing the greats of Nikola Jokic. Mike Greenberg quoted: “This postseason will become the one that changes the game. I think Nikola Jokic is going to do for the NBA something similar to what Steph Curry did for the game a decade ago. When everybody decided we need to shoot threes, we need to find more ways to shoot threes. Analytics took over the sport and all of a sudden everyone is looking to shoot 3 footers… Now all of a sudden I think this is the direction all things go.”
Further, Mike Greenberg also added how Nikola Jokic is going to become someone that many will wish to be. As the little kids are soon going to pick up the game style of the Joker and try to repeat his run. But that’s not going to be easy as the Nuggets are hungry for some more titles. Also, Jokic is undoubtedly the best player on the planet.
FMVP Nikola Jokic’s historical Playoff Run
Nikola Jokic achieved championship status and even bagged the FMVP award putting a remarkable end to his historical playoff run. Jokic became the first center to win the FMVP since Shaquille O’Neal in the early 2000s. He also recorded a historic game with a 30/20/10 stat line in the Finals. Jokic also broke the playoffs record for triple-doubles by recording those on 10 of the 20 appearances he had during the postseason.
Most importantly Nikola Jokic also became the first player in league history to ever lead the league in points, assists, and rebounds. During the championship run on his way up, he also got rid of competitors like KAT, Anthony Edwards, Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and especially the Jimmy Butler-led Miami Heat.
Nikola Jokic is really a one-of-one superstar and we may are spectating someone who really could change the game. So Mike Greenberg isn’t wrong while putting him in the same conversation as the 2016 Stephen Curry who still has kids pulling up from half-court. Jokic now may have the kids doing the Sombor Shuffle and passing the ball more.
