Former Spurs psychologist, Josh Primo

The San Antonio Spurs were in peril after former first-round pick Josh Primo left the organization after being accused earlier this month of nine times exposing himself to the team’s sports psychologist.

The Spurs ignored the problem and made an effort to hide it, according to Dr. Hillary Cauthen, a licensed psychologist with legal training and qualifications.

Dr. Cauthen gave a statement to police earlier this month when her lawsuit was filed, and a criminal investigation into her allegations against Primo was still going on at the time. Primo has refuted her charges through his attorney, claiming that they are either entirely untrue, excessively exaggerated, or pure fantasy.

But recently according to a news source, Primo is no longer being sued, as of right now.

It stated: “The woman accusing former San Antonio Spurs guard Josh Primo has dropped the lawsuit against him in Bexar County. … She later agreed to settle the lawsuit she filed against the team in mid-November.” Dr. Cauthen’s attorney also emailed ESPN mentioning: “The parties have agreed to resolve this matter. The entire case is over and we have no further comment.”

Josh Primo and his unfavorable reputation after recent theatrics

Josh Primo and the San Antonio Spurs were being sued by Dr. Hillary Cauthen, the former team psychologist. Primo, a former first-round pick, was accused of having exposed his genitals to Cauthen nine times, the first occasion being in a psychological consultation in December 2021 and being reported to the team the following month.

In 2022, while participating in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, he once more made indecent exposure.

Primo was fired from the Spurs last month, a few days after attempting to expose himself to another woman as the team was traveling to Minnesota to play the Timberwolves.

After joining the Spurs in 2021 and having her contract not renewed, Cauthen left the team in 2022. She then made a criminal complaint against Primo, and the team management told her to take a break and work from home after she submitted the complaint. She additionally alleged that the administration told her client they no longer trusted her.

Primo, the 19-year-old, was cut by the Spurs in late October, just two weeks after the team exercised the third-year option in his contract, which guaranteed his $4.3 million salary for the 2023–2024 season. Moreover, he was taken by the Spurs with the No. 12 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.

Josh Primo was an NBA talent who was still inexperienced and untested before all of this happened. He had a 5.8 points, 2.3 rebound, and 1.6 assist average in his first season with the San Antonio Spurs. Primo had a lot of talent, but this mistake might have cost him his chance to play in the league. Even if he is a free agent, it seems unlikely that any franchise would be prepared to accept the burden he currently carries.

At this point, no one can truly say what is true and what is not. The team’s head coach, Gregg Popovich, insisted that the Spurs have always been a very professional group and that he fully supports them in this circumstance. Given the current allegations against him, it is reasonable to infer that Primo will face a very difficult challenge to reclaim his career path.
