‘Motivated’ Steve Kerr claims Warriors could make a deep playoff run despite being 10th in Western Conference
The Warriors' run this season has been full of ups and downs.
Steve Kerr believes that the Warriors will have a good playoff run this year.
The Golden State Warriors’ dynasty is considered one of the best in the history of the game. The Warriors have won four championships since 2015. But the team has been struggling since their last finals run in 2022.
Last year they had a decent playoff showing, but the same cannot be said for this time around. The Warriors are currently fighting for their position to even qualify in the playoffs. However, despite being the 10th team in the Western Conference, the Warriors’ head coach Steve Kerr has not lost faith in his team.
Kerr recently appeared on the ‘95.7 The Game’ podcast as a guest. On the podcast, he was asked about the effects of the team winning a game without Curry and its benefits going ahead in the season. Kerr showed a positive outlook towards the team’s recent record.
Kerr mentioned the team winning 16 of their last 21 games, and the team’s unchanged standings during this run. The coach also acknowledged the tough competition in the West. Yet he is confident in his team if they perform consistently and stay healthy.
I feel really strongly that our team is primed if we can really stay healthy down the stretch, get Steph back. I feel like we can make a really good run.Steve Kerr
Kerr is confident that the Warriors will have a ‘strong’ playoff run and still make it to the top. The Warriors’ star player Stephen Curry is currently injured and has missed two games. The team has won one of the two games in Curry’s absence.
It has been ups and downs for the Warriors this season
The Golden State Warriors have not been fully healthy for most of this season. Some players were also missing games due to suspensions or personal matters. The team has struggled since the start of the season.
But things changed in the last month. The rookies and the young players were the reasons for the team’s limited but important wins. But the veteran’s return will and has benefitted the team tremendously.
Draymond Green returned from his suspension, Andrew Wiggins got back after being absent due to personal matters, and Chris Paul recovered from his injury. All of this resulted in the team only losing three games in February. After a long time, the whole team was looking healthy and available. As the Warriors were looking good for the rest of the season, their star player got injured and the team has already lost three games in March now.
But it will be foolish, and risky, to count the team out from the playoffs talks. As Kerr mentioned, the team was in a similar situation last year and yet made it to the second round in the playoffs. Even now, the team is only four wins away from being the 6th team in the conference. But considering the fight in the West, the team has to win consecutive games to improve their record and qualify for the playoffs.
