“I’m still a PROUD BLACK man” Muhammad Ali’s daughter lauded LeBron James’ maturity after his house was scandalized by racial slurs
LeBron James, Muhammad and Laila Ali
In 2017, when LeBron James was gearing up for the NBA Finals during his second tenure with the Cleveland Cavaliers, racist graffiti was spray-painted on the gates of his Los Angeles residence. After the event, Laila Ali claimed that he handled it professionally and displayed her support.
The Lakers star became the first active NBA player to reach a net worth of $1 billion earlier this year, joining a small group of athletes who make that much money. James’ achievement of the billion dollar milestone makes him one of just three athletes to have done so, demonstrating his commitment both inside and outside of his playing career.
LeBron’s Los Angeles house was vandalized with a racist slur on his front gate before the night of the 2017 NBA Finals. In a news conference held in advance of the NBA Finals, James discussed the event, and Muhammad Ali’s daughter praised him for his maturity in handling the issue.
Lebron James’ historic NBA career and his disappointing previous season
LeBron James is a prime example of a player who has excelled for more than 20 years and is fighting for the title of greatest NBA player of all time. He has won four NBA titles, four MVP awards overall, and four MVP awards in the Finals. For 17 consecutive NBA seasons, the two-time Olympic champion averaged 25 points or more per game. James is an NBA record-tying three-time All-Star MVP and has played in 18 of them, making him the the game’s most selected player and the leading scorer. With 37062 points, James is second all-time in scoring, only behind Kareem Abdul Jabbar. He was chosen to represent the NBA’s 75th anniversary team and is a potential Hall of Famer.
Los Angeles Lakers’ 33-49 record prevented them from making the Play-In round, ending LeBron James’ 19th NBA season. The fact that “The King” didn’t play enough games to have his 30.3 points per game even listed prevented him from competing for the scoring title. James played for the LA Lakers for four seasons, where he won one championship, suffered two first-round losses, and missed two NBA Playoffs. Once more, LeBron has excelled in each of his individual seasons. Injury has caused him to miss multiple games in three of those four seasons, which has been disastrous to the team’s consistency as well as to him personally.

Laila Ali’s take on James’ comments about his home being ruined with racist slurs
Laila Ali made an appearance on SC6 to discuss her father, Muhammad Ali, and several other sporting topics. On the episode, they questioned Ali about how LeBron James handled the situation when his home was ruined with a racist slur that was spray-painted. In a press conference the day after the incident, James addressed the issue and said the following: “No matter how much money you have, no matter how famous you are, no matter how many people admire you, being black in America is tough.” Laila Ali supported him by stating: “I thought he handled it really well. And showed a lot of maturity because we all know that, you know, there’s still racism in this country.”
Lebron has spoken openly about racism before and that was not the first time. James, along with NBA stars Dwyane Wade, Chris Paul, and Carmelo Anthony, discussed the subject in 2016 at the ESPYs. They took the initiative to support those in their community as a way of paying tribute to Muhammad Ali and remembering his legacy. James, one of the most successful players in league history, also expressed his worries for his children’s future in a nation where black murders at the hands of police enforcement are a prominent problem. He has also encountered many obstacles as a black guy, and as a result, he is still a strong supporter of speaking out for the views of the community.
