“When you hear about Kevin Durant running…SHAME ON YOU” NBA Analyst applauds Bill Russell for being loyal to Celtics
Rob Parker talks about Bill Russell and his commitment thrashing Kevin Durant on commitment issue
NBA lost one of its biggest stars, Bill Russell, the legend of Boston Celtics. He spent 13 years playing in the NBA and winning 11 championship rings. Though it was a very short career – as compared to some of the current stars, it certainly was very illustrations one. He won more championships than any other NBA star, nearly making a 100% championship record in his career. And importantly he stood by his team in all those 13 seasons, even playing a dual role of Coach and player in the last 2 seasons. NBA analyst Rob Parker lauded his commitment to the Celtics franchise.
News anchor and NBA analysts Rob Parker and Chris Broussard recently spoke about the NBA legend and everything he went through during his career. Parker talked about the Celtics legends playing in front of the fans who hated him. He said, “I don’t believe, Chris, I would have been able to play in Boston for people who hated me, who disrespected me, who made me feel unwelcome and unwanted,”
Amazed by the commitment, Parker added, “…And I’m wearing Boston across my jersey, I’m winning for their emotions, that they feel good. And I’m sure he won for himself, but – you know what I mean? – it made the city and the people who lived there feel good. I don’t think I would have been able to do it. I admire him.”
Bill Russell faced huge racism while still maintaining his loyalty to the team
Russell was drafted by the Boston Celtics in 1956 and spent his entire career in the city. He was their most decorated player in terms of championships won for them. He delivered 11 NBA titles, and that too only in 13 seasons. However, the 6-foot-10 big man was not appreciated by some Celtics fans, despite winning all those titles. Fans didn’t like one thing about Russell: his race.

Bill Russell played in a city where some people hated him. Some people even would break into his house and steal his trophies. The event was clearly very disheartening for a player delivering his 100% for the team and franchise. But Russell was a competitor and a fantastic player.
The Louisiana-born mega star continued playing incredible basketball despite all the hate. The icon, however, did not care for the fans. He wanted to win, and do his best for the franchise he plays for. Many players would have asked for a trade the moment they found themselves in his situation; however, Russell’s commitment was unmatched.
Rob Parker used Bill Russell’s example to trash the current Kevin Durant situation.
Bill Russell could not avoid racism even though he was a great player who turned the Celtics into a dynasty. If it wasn’t for him, Boston’s NBA team wouldn’t have been the most successful team in league history. But the same can’t be said for many current megastars. Rob Parker compared Bill Russell to the current situation of Kevin Durant. He requested a trade back in June 2022. The sports anchor spoke about Russell staying in Boston for more than a decade, yet Durant couldn’t handle a few bad years.
Parker said, “He didn’t play there for a year or two and go, ‘OK, I can’t do this. I gotta get out of town.’ That’s why when you hear Kevin Durant and some of these other guys ready to run out after something doesn’t go right? Shame on you,”
Celtics fans did not like the fact that their team was successful because of a Black man. They did everything they could to run him away, which didn’t work on Russell. But in the case of Durant, fans and the franchise want him to stay, but the player is looking for a change of scenario, instead of fighting with them for the title.
